Today we’d like to introduce you to Paloma Bouhid.
Hi Paloma, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I worked as a Cast Member at Walt Disney World since 2017 and was unexpectedly laid off in October of 2020. After many months of not working and now being faced with needing to find a new job, I found comfort in doing what I’ve always loved — organizing. Something that I used to do for my friends and family, soon became something that I started doing for extra cash once I got laid off. After a couple of months of organizing for a client, word began to spread, and I had a few more clients lined up before the year was over. Over the holiday break, I decided to officially start my journey as a business owner. I filed my LLC in January of 2021 and have been on a steady climb ever since. I have added countless new clients, most of who have become “regulars” and am working to grow my business every day. As a kid, I loved to organize and would spend many weekends redoing my whole room and closet. When I went to college, my roommates benefited countless times from the need to clean out and tidy their closets for them. It soon became a regular thing that I did for them every few months. It is something that I have always had a knack for and always thoroughly enjoyed.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My father is also a small business owner and started his business shortly after we immigrated to the US from Brazil. He gave me the vote of confidence that I needed to really consider turning my hobby into a business. While I had his help in registering my business, we offer two different services so the extent of his experience really ended on the technical side of business ownership. In the beginning, I reached out to some friends who had also started their own entrepreneurial journey and asked for their advice. Most of this has been trial and error, and I’ve learned so much in the past 20 months. I am grateful for the clients that are sticking with me through the growing pains. Learning the value of my services, what processes work best, how to market, how to grow, and where to set boundaries has been the most difficult. As a new small business owner, you are responsible for the entire process from beginning to end, and it has really shown me where my strengths and weakness lie. The thing that has really gotten me through this time is the fact that I enjoy the main aspects of the job which are organizing and creating strong relationships with my clients.
