Meet G. Bliz

Today we’d like to introduce you to G. Bliz.

Hi G., thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
My love for music started at 9 years old with a guitar I found under my parents’ bed. It belonged to my dad; he had it for years but never learned to play it, but thank God, he bought it. I started taking lessons from Herb Rubio, and for high school, I went to a really cool art school in CT called Cooperative Arts & Humanities, shout out to Mr. Smith! My interest in music was changing and evolving into more of an R&B, Gospel, and hip-hop type vibe, which was more unique for a guitarist at the time. I started playing gigs and shows and ended up playing in the house band for 106&Park, “Notorious.” After high school, I moved to West Palm Beach to pursue becoming a music producer, and also started playing guitar for Rico Love. I was in a production team called “Blvck Amsterdam,” and our first placement was with Teyana Taylor on her debut Album VII (“In the Air”). Eventually, I got connected to the Miami scene and linked up with I am Chino, Pitbull’s whole team, and Supa Dups, and they truly blessed me with a lot of incredible opportunities. The Orlando connection occurred when John K’s team reached out for me to collab on some music with them, leading to “OT” and “Best of Me” and gaining a bunch of traction. This eventually led to “If We Never Met,” getting us a platinum record. A mutual friend, Tony, found me on IG and asked me to come to produce for his artist “Talii.” As soon as I heard her voice, we booked a session and wrote her first songs, “Mouth” and “Lost.” Long story short, we fell in love, and I moved up to the Orlando area. We had a few writing camps that led to finding friends and family for life. I’m now in a new production team called “Luxury Lane”; you’ll be hearing that name a lot more soon! I’m thrilled to be making music with so many incredible creatives in this area, it honestly feels like we were all magnetized to each other. I’ll always have a love for Orlando and Central Florida; it really feels like home.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Eh. I wouldn’t say smooth. There’s been many ups and downs. Some key struggles are explaining to friends and family what it is you do and just how tough it can be. Generating income while trying to remain creative and make art. Being unique but relevant as an artist/producer. Having the inner struggle, wondering if you’re good enough, wondering if you should be further, and getting caught up in comparing yourself to others. Your mind will tell you to quit, and so will people around you, but your belief in yourself is stronger than all of that. I’m grateful for my failures because they’ve led to all my wins.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I wear a couple of hats, but I would say most people know me for playing the guitar and then for being a producer/writer/artist. As my bro Kaelin put it, “I make things”. I like to connect musical dots, put things together that shouldn’t be, and fuse styles and genres. All just to make new things. If you’ve experienced my production style in the studio, you know I’m all about helping the overall song come to life, facilitating the structure/vibe, and, most importantly, pulling out the vision and performance of the artist. That art is kind of lost these days, but the team and I are bringing it back in a whole new way. I would describe myself as someone who learned the rules in order to break them when needed.

Who else deserves credit for your story?
I mentioned a few people earlier but shout out to my parents and brother, Herb Rubio, Jim Rutkowski, Vindell Smith, Jonathan Dubose, Walt Williams (my guitar teachers/mentors), Mr. Smith (Highschool music teacher), Blasian Chris, Dan O’, Mugsy (best friends who push me and motivate me) Joe and Zig for bringing me out to West Palm, Johnny to Miami, Kendrick Dean brought me to ATL, Rico Love and Notorious both put me on TV, Mike Kolar let me sleep on his couch when we made “in the air” for Teyana, Adam Piccoli and Dave Adams for being my production partners, John K for Tony, Tony for introducing me to Talii. Talii for being my love and the reason I’m here. Luxury Lane (Icee Red, Phil Mango, SW8VY, and myself) for being the squad, my brother’s Channel, Flozigg and Isaiah Falls, and ClicKlak for trusting me with their art, and my talented brother Dabu for helping me get healthy. KP from the Colleagues, Woodz, Golden child, Nash, Current, Alia Lene, Ian G, Steph Rendell, Cino A., Lew, and Mickey @ Vivid are some of my favorite producers/artists/Engineers around that inspire me all the time!!! The list really does go on, and I’m so sorry Cuz I know I missed somebody, lol.
