Conversations with Wilson Messina

Today we’d like to introduce you to Wilson Messina.

Hi Wilson, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Well, I was Born in the Dominican Republic, then I moved here when I was 12 and grew up in St Cloud ever since. I am bout to graduate from Valencia College with an AA in Sound and Music Tech degree. I first got into the world of sound and music because of my pastor, he needed help with doing sound so I volunteered and helped. To be honest, for me, it felt natural after they taught me how to do it because everything that they were teaching me I was soaking everything up like a sponge. after I started to experiment doing music in my sophomore year in high school, I saw my friend started to rap and I just felt more of the music side of things since I cannot write a song even though I wish I could be an artist. I eventually got a midi keyboard and I just started to look up videos on how to make beats on Fl Studios and it was just a wrap from there.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Of course they will always be some struggles. Just like Spice Adams says, “you can’t climb a mountain if it was smooth, you got to have some rough spots.” my main struggle really is since I am an immigrant, I would always get paid under the table whenever I’m doing work for people. I would also say that my parents were a bit of a struggle because I am the first one in my family that decided to do something like this, everyone else is either a health major or an engineer major.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I can do a lot when it comes to the music industry, I have worked on small films for school, worked on albums and done Foley work for movies as well. I specialize more in making beats but I also know how to engineer.

What makes you happy?
Just being alive everyday so that I can get to do what I love for a living.
