Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey Daggett.
Hi Lindsey, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born and raised in Calais, Maine, a small town in the middle of nowhere. I’ve always dreamed of performing: acting, singing, dancing. I dream out loud and used my talents as an escape from my boring town. In December 2021, I was invited to participate in Talent INC, a development program to help performers advance their careers. The showcase takes place in Orlando, where the performances are shown to talent agents and casting directors. A chance of a lifetime, especially for a small-town girl like me. I went on my first plane ride (I even saw lightning in the sky!) and stayed at the most posh hotel I’ll probably ever stay at. I met the other Talent INC performers and felt so at home, having the same aspirations as me. I saw salamanders on the sidewalks, I even went to my first Disney Park; Disney Springs is my new favorite place in the world. The heat was so different compared to Maine heat, the pool feeling like warm bath water. I made amazing new friends, got to walk on a runway, and now I’m signed with a talent agency. This was a trip of a lifetime, worth every risk, anxiety attack, and dollar. I’ve never left New England prior to this trip; it lights a fire to explore and take more risks.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I struggle with anxiety. I was scared to death of flying. Now I don’t mind it! Financially it was tough paying for the showcase and the hotel (my credit card declined when I checked in!) I also struggled with insecurity seeing so many talented performers at the showcase, but I kept telling myself it was worth it; I didn’t come 2,000 miles to give up.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I currently work in health care. But my dream is to act and model. I’ve always loved putting on shows and entertaining people; making art is all I know.
Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
This whole experience was a risk! I didn’t know Florida at all, thankfully, my mom was with me (a former Florida resident), which made things less scary. I wasn’t sure if I was going to be good enough for an agent to sign me, but I was more terrified of the what-ifs.
