Today we’d like to introduce you to Cuong Truong.
Hi Cuong, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I came to America in 2015 by myself with no family. I started helping out my cousin shop at that time when there were not many nail art. I started to gain interest in designing nail art. I wanted to make a change in the nail industry. When I did my first nail design, I was amazed at what I could do. I eventually fell in love at nail art design. Later on, I met a Master Nail Artist named Vincent. He gave me more motivation in pursuing my career as a nail artist. I was lucky to meet John Nguyen, the CEO of MD Nail who introduced me to the team and other ambassadors helping me gain more knowledge in the field. Because of them I get to travel many states teaching others what I’ve learned throughout my life. I was blessed to be able to pass down my knowledge to others. As of right now, I’m happily running Noire The Nail Bar Estero with my partners. I want to thanks my wonderful fiancé Kaylee Luong for all of her support. I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for her.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not all nails are perfect. One of the struggles that I have is that you have to put out a lot of time for a nail design, and you couldn’t charge them the amount you wanted to. One of the designs I did took around 3hrs to do. At that time, I wanted to gave up. But I didn’t gave up. Because the work that I did put a big smile on my customers’ face. That’s what motivated me to keep going.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I am currently running both Noire The Nail Bar Estero and Sea Street Food & Bar. Even though I don’t teach nail anymore, I still teaches my employees with nail designs and any knowledge I know. I want to pass down my skills to my employees and to help them teach others as well. Throughout my traveling to teach nails, I got to experience many food in different places. It gave me ideas to open a restaurant. My partners and I decided to open a Sea Street Food & Bar passing down our favorite dishes to the local.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
In 5-10 years, I would like to see myself operating more nail salons. And I would like to see my restaurant operating successfully.
