Today we’d like to introduce you to Fernando Colon.
Hi Fernando, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Music has always been around since I was a kid, I use to listen to a bunch of hip hop songs from my father’s cd case on my CD player, and I loved the way hip hop sounded it always caught my interest. I met a kid on the block who moved next door to me who loved hip hop as much as I did. He introduced me into artist I never heard before such as wu tang, Nas, etc., and my love for hip hop grew even more! Then I had another neighbor who was an actual rapper who started to show me how to write rhymes, how to flow, how to do a lot of things. Before I knew it after school, I would freestyle with all the kids in a cypher, and everyone would love how I would rap. as I got older, I had stop focusing on music and began to have interest in street racing, I got my first car at 16 and became a street racer, racing on the street, I had my own car club, and we would race other crews late at night in different cities for fun or money, around the age 20 I had gotten in a bad car accident that made me stop street racing for good, I had to figure out what I wanted to do with my life and I decided to give music one last shot. From 20 to 21, I saved money to go to school In Florida to learn about music production. I moved to Florida at the age 21. I met a lot of new people who loved music as much as I did. I graduated from music production school and started working for famous artist building stages for them. I was working on my music on my free days and building stages for famous artist for their concerts when I had to go to work. I was also inspired by these artists because I could watch them perform up close that no fans could get as close to. Sometimes I would meet these artists as well, which was so cool! Working this job made me want to even go harder for music. As I live in Orlando, I started building a name for myself out there, and I eventually made it on the number one hip hop radio station out there; I found myself freestyling live on the radio and also have my song played on the radio. I lived In Florida for about a few years till the pandemic hit then I had moved to ATL with a friend at the time. We created music together as a group, and our song went #42 on the charts in South Korea; we were so excited at the time. Eventually, we had split and went separates ways, and I moved back home to Pennsylvania, where I help build my friend’s recording studio, RDM. I recorded a bunch of my music there with him and started building my name out here. Currently, now I’m booked every weekend performing and selling out shows! I’ve been awarded for best movie soundtrack for a movie called soul hood saga part 1, been featured on multiple blogs, etc!!! I’ve currently been doing music 8 years, and I’ve never stopped since the day I decided to make this as a career.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been a long and rough journey it hasn’t been easy going after my dreams for so long and not seeing any results. Sometimes it can get to you, but you have to keep on pushing. As an artist, I’ve spent tons and tons of money each year trying to figure out how to make it, and I didn’t see any results into 5 years of me doing music. I had finally made it on the radio, and that’s when I started to see some results with my career, but it still wasn’t enough because it was only a small achievement, and I had a long way to go to get where I wanted to be. Luckily, I have a passion for music, and my love for music will never fade away
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
So, I’m not only just an artist; I’m an audio engineer as well; I love playing with different plugins to find and create a new different sound! I’m known for entertaining the crowd and getting everyone hype and excited! I’m most proud of how far I have come and never giving up always trying to find new and different ways to succeed! My drive is different from other artist I’m always dropping content, networking, and making opportunities for myself.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Constancy is key!!! The more music/photos/videos etc. you put out the more people will notice! And I guarantee people will notice you and give you an opportunity that will help you get to the next step of your career
