Today we’d like to introduce you to Damarys Acevedo.
Hi Damarys, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My Hairstylist career began in New York City about 25 years ago. I worked as an assistant in Joseph Martin Salon and then decided to move to Florida after September 11. Hoping to reestablish my career and give my family a better quality of life. Finding work in Orlando was surprisingly easy. I worked at Profiles Salon and then Shear Madnesses Salon. Though the cost of living and pricing was dramatically different from living in a big city. I found myself building a clientele and career that has only brought more joy to my life. Not only was I helping others look good, but I was builder relationships that have lasted a lifetime. Shortly after I moved to the Waterford Lakes area and worked at Instyle. This move Catapulted me into the next stage of my life. Business Owner. I open the Beauty Box Hair Salon in July 2009. It was at the height of the recession, so I literally open the doors by myself. But as luck had me, I filled in all my chairs in a matter of six months and have been in business for over 14 years now.
Being a business owner has many challenges. But it is very rewarding to be self-employed and be in a career that you love, and that is fulfilling on a daily basis.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest struggle of owning your own business is keeping your chairs full. Keeping hairstylist behind the chair has been extremely challenging. Because cosmetologist are very transient.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My specialty is long hair I specialize in hair coloring services, highlights, balayage, keratin treatments, and haircuts.
