Today we’d like to introduce you to Abby Bolivar.
Hi Abby, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
As a millennial who went to college and got a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, only to end up working as a server in a restaurant for many years and then settled into an office job, I really yearned to be my own boss and start a business. I racked my brain and scoured the internet for entrepreneurial ideas, but nothing really stuck out to me or seemed worth the time or effort.
The idea to do picnics came to me in December of 2021. I had seen one in person walking through a park one day and was mesmerized by the luxury and aesthetics of it all. I quickly dove into research on how to properly start a business in Florida, which consisted of licenses, insurance, and an LLC. I had the support of those around me who believed the picnic business was a wonderful idea.
Personally, I’ve always been in love with interior design. Especially the boho style of decorating that is synonymous with the luxury picnics. I had worked at a fine dining restaurant years ago and knew what it took to set up table settings, even down to the napkin folding. So, with both of these interests and skills under my belt, I opened my business to the public in February of 2022!
The picnic business in Orlando and the surrounding areas was already booming when I first came into it and continues to be the same to this day. I knew I was up against very talented individuals who had been doing this for some time now. The thing that kept me going was knowing that I had my own special flair to add to my picnics that people would enjoy and have as an option if needed. Plus, I’m only doing picnics part-time on the weekends, so it was never intended to be my full-time gig. I just wanted a creative outlet that allowed me to feel fulfilled while at the same time providing a beautiful experience for other people!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Starting your own business is never an easy thing. I don’t have any background in business and planned to get by on my own ambition and slight knowledge of social media and how to advertise my business on apps like Instagram and TikTok. There were many other successful picnic businesses that have their loyal clientele, so it was tough being the new kid on the block. I was trying to be mindful of making my picnics unique while also taking inspirations from others in the sector. In addition, learning the ins and outs of permits at the parks and what sort of preparation that needs to happen beforehand was and is a bit of a challenge. All of the above, coupled with working full time has definitely made it an interesting ride.

I am blessed to have such a supportive group of people around me that are fully behind me and my business endeavors! My wonderful boyfriend and his family have been my biggest support system. My lovely friends are constantly posting my business on their Instagram stories to get the word out! I have a silent business partner that has graciously helped fund the business. Even other creators and influencers have also been super helpful in my success. I’m very grateful for them all.
