Today we’d like to introduce you to Carlos Azuaje and Arelys Quintero.
Hi Carlos and Arelys, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Carlos Azuaje. I’ve always been drawn to paintings seen in houses or restaurants, through maybe some kind of stimulus or attraction that led to the physical and metaphysical coming up to me through art. In its simplest and most practical form, the drawing and building with toys, it was such a nice hobby as only children can appreciate. It’s only later on, as we grow up and gain some consciousness of what we want to become, that curiosity for paint or sculpture took a turn towards a deeper dedication and study.
Art is a condition of human life, a way of communicating for people to convey thoughts, ideas, and feelings that bind them together as human beings. Is a way of inner search gets you closer to the answers you seek from a simple emotion, being essential for humanity and its progress along its evolution and development. For these reasons, Art is considered a universal element, bound to serve its age and the people that live in it.
The whole of human existence is filled with art expressions, and in all these expressions, common ideas and feelings that unity human beings can be found, such as love, freedom, sadness, grief, mystery, joy, science, faith, etc. And that’s where the artist, through his work, is able to capture the needs and reality of its time, to express them through painting, sculpture, music, dance, etc. So, every person might feel drawn and relate to the work of art and to the reality of its time, projecting his very own reality and needs.
Because of this, during his formation, experience, and work the artist seeks the meaning of life, as well as an activity that might lead him, through expression, to an answer to human existence itself, using art to represent and express his space and time, to understand himself, and to convey an emotion, being this, in the end, the very core of human existence.
In this historical development, painting is one of the highest artist expressions of the human being, as well as one of the most ancient; it was used to convey and idea, emotion, or vision since the beginning of human history. From the caves to the age of social networks, image, color, light, and line has been tools for the development and evolution of man, and for this reason, ” Art deserves to be the highest education in the development of the human being.”
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Not much, but migrating and starting from scratch in a country that is not the one of birth can make the road a little more difficult, but nothing to regret.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
We are artists, both my wife Arelys Quintero and I. My wife paints with acrylic on canvas, she say that the art is creation and is to give life. The colors, images and sensations come together in her work, she like to capture things that already exist in the nature and she transform that through art, giving it her personal aspect. She say that the life itself is an inspiration, it’s a changing cycle with different nuances. Also gives painting classes, she is the one who runs the academy we founded in 2018 and painting workshops in different parts of the city.
I also teach, I paint with different materials and most of the time with oil on canvas; I am also a sculptor in different material, plasticine, wood, sculptural assembly with scrap, I do photography and Carpentry is something I dedicate myself to as a job. We are proud of what we have achieved so far and that children are happy with what they learn and paint; and if we consider any difference is to question what happens in our environment, analyze in depth what is shown in front of us, and make philosophy to grow as people.

Perseverance and taking advantage of the positive when mistakes are made
