Today we’d like to introduce you to Debbie Bellon.
Hi Debbie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I remember early on in my childhood feeling a very strong connection to Spirit. It was a knowing I had that I didn’t quite understand at the time but was certain of. The type of feeling you have deep in your soul, but you don’t know how it got there, if that makes sense. I still have that feeling today. It’s a comfort I can’t quite put into words.
I attended Sunday school and church on and off through the years. At one point, my beautiful grandmother decided to stop going to church. She felt the new pastor at our church was preaching more about his personal opinions and prejudices rather than the word of God. I was in high school at the time. The more I continued to go to church the more her perspective would run through my mind, and I, too, noticed the same thing. It started a long period of questioning for me and honestly, as I think about it, it hasn’t stopped. I began exploring spirituality more and finding what resonated with me, with my heart and soul.
I went the traditional route of going to college and discovered it wasn’t where my interests were. I became interested in Massage Therapy and, in 1997, got my national certification. I taught for a short time and then moved on to develop my own practice. I loved it.
I got pregnant, and in 1999 my daughter was born. My husband and I were beyond happy after going through a series of miscarriages and being told I would never be able to have children. She was 2 months early and had to stay in the NICU for a month but otherwise was perfectly healthy. We made the decision that I would give up my practice and be a stay home mom. It was my greatest joy, and in 2002 my son was born, but only 1 month early and no NICU stay. I continued to stay home for many years as my children grew up.
During those years, I learned Transcendental Meditation, practiced massage therapy here and there, and dove deeper into my spirituality. I had a deep desire to help people and still do. I had been through so much personal loss with my miscarriages, losing my mom, grandma, pets…it was so much. I knew if I could get through all of that, I could help others do the same. I could help them with their grief, their challenges and helping them transform their lives into what they desire rather than what they feel trapped in. Hope is incredibly powerful, and it resides in my heart and always has. I guess I wanted to offer others hope; I wanted them to know there is more out there, more to life than what can be seen. I wanted them to feel it like I did/do.
As my spirituality grew, so did my desire to reach more people. I dove headfirst into discovering more about myself, more about my strengths and weaknesses, my highs and lows, and what triggered them. I worked intently at times on my shadows. I knew if I was going to help people, I had to do the work first. I had to know first-hand what it entailed, what worked and what didn’t. Talk about a journey and a very interesting one at that. I’m still on this journey, and I always will be. I learned different modalities and fell in love with Reiki. My first experience receiving a reiki treatment was emotional and incredibly freeing. I continued with in-person sessions until I moved out of state. After that, my Reiki Master at the time continued to do distance treatments on me. Sadly, my friend and Reiki Master died, and I went through a period of grief where I didn’t want anything to do with energy work.
Literally one day it all changed, and I knew I had to learn reiki myself. I found another Reiki Master to study with and learned reiki and then went on to become a Reiki Master. I teach Reiki Level 1 and 2, and I utilize reiki every day whether I’m working with a client or not. Reiki does no harm. It has no contra-indications. It can be done on a fetus in utero as well as someone who is at the end of their life. I have seen the power of reiki, and my clients have as well. My husband was a “non-believer” in the beginning, but he no longer is as he has experienced the healing power of reiki himself. My now adult children have experienced it as well.
I started to get the nudge to expand beyond only reiki, and at first, I pushed back on that nudge. The nudge got louder and more frequent, so I followed it, and it opened up even more for me. I became a Quantum Numerologist, Akashic Records Guide, Retreat Facilitator, Meditation Guide, Card Reader and have included more modalities into my business. My practice has expanded to offer more and is tailored specifically to the individual needs of the client. I work with clients more on a long-term plan rather than only a weekly or monthly reiki appointment. I still do those appointments because I believe in them, and they’re powerful on their own.
As I continue to grow, my practice continues to grow. I love helping people to see their own light, to love themselves, and to live fully. We all have a unique gift to offer the world, the gift of being who we are. There is only 1 you in this world, only 1, and the world needs your light, or you simply wouldn’t be here. There’s nothing wrong with you and everything that is right. You are perfectly you. We are all so much more alike than we realize.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road at all, and I’m actually grateful for that. The bumps have taught me considerable lessons that help me be more empathetic and relate to the people I want to help even more. I didn’t get to where I am because it was easy. I got here because things went awry and I had to learn to pivot when needed, reach out for support and look deeply into my soul and see how and why I had created some of the messes in my life. I had to take responsibility for that because I was the only one who could do anything about it.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
What I love most about my work is that nearly all of it is done remotely. What I do doesn’t require a person to be in the same room as me. We don’t even have to be in the same country. I have clients as far as Scotland and Wales. Energy knows no distance. It works regardless of the proximity I am to the client. This can be a hard concept to grasp for some people. It’s like a cell phone…when we text or call someone, we think nothing of how it actually works, although there may be a basic understanding of it. It’s based on frequency, just like the radio stations we tune into. The same goes for energy work. As a Reiki Master, I was attuned to the frequency of the energy and serve as a conduit to direct the energy. As you receive the energy, your body is literally healing itself. That’s very powerful!
Reiki is a way of life for me. I do my best to live it daily in everything I do. Does this mean life is smooth and only rainbows…not in the least. I used to think people who had solid spiritual practices lived a more charmed life and were pretty even-tempered; nothing really got to them; they were more zen-like. I couldn’t have been more wrong. We practice this work because we, too, need this work.
I’m excited to be able to offer my clients more rounded energy sessions, including different modalities like numerology, akashic records work, meditation, card readings, etc. Co-facilitating my retreat in April in Costa Rica was such a beautiful experience. It was a women’s retreat, and we did incredible deep inner work. Seeing the transformation of these women from day 1 to day 7 was such a gift to be a part of. I, too, was changed.
Alchemizing our own energy is something every single one of us is capable of. We have all we need within us to transform our lives. Sometimes we just need a little help, a broader perspective, someone to truly see us, and someone who realizes we are all a little broken.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Orlando is a fantastic place to live. With a very diverse culture, we have the opportunity to experience so much beyond ourselves. There is always something to do in this city. My favorite time of year is during our so-called winter months when I can get out and explore more. I love hiking, and the landscape of our city is so beautiful. We have many trails and parks to explore. We have fantastic museums and entertainment venues. It really is “The City Beautiful”!
Now, if we could just turn the traffic down a little, that would be even more amazing.
