Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelvin Nesmith.
Hi Kelvin, can you introduce yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I am now 34, happy and fulfilled because I wake up every day and work side by side with my partner on our short-term rental properties and interior decorating. I would’ve never thought the day my career as a nurse would go from temporarily halting due to COVID-19 to being permanently over and going into business to do what I love, and that’s interior decorating. It all started with obtaining my nursing license in 2013, but I always considered that career move a second option. In 2021, when COVID struck, my partner had the idea to start a short-term rental business. We were both exhausted with corporate jobs and determined to make our lane. I got an early start through self-teaching, reading educational information, and decorating my spaces along with those of family and friends. Fast forward to today, we’ve grown to three short-term rentals where I can utilize my decorating skills and create bookable eye-catching living spaces. With the help of my partner, who is now a realtor, I get the opportunity to help home buyers bring their vision to life for their new home.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The most significant challenge along the way was me. I had a hard time getting out of my way. Working in the nursing field became routine, but I overcame that roadblock once I decided to narrate my own story.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I wear many hats in my day-to-day professional life. I’m an interior decorator specializing in short-term rental projects. I’ve also done full remodels, helping homeowners upgrade the look of their homes from top to bottom. I’m a short-term rental host who manages three properties, two in Kentucky and one in Florida. I also work as a real estate assistant for my partner, which in turn allows me to meet new people and get the opportunity to propose my services to them. I’m most proud that we turned our rental property into a short-term rental and did a complete remodel, gave it a chic boho theme all within two months, and was open for business, and now we’ve been running strong for the past year. What sets me apart from others is that I like to ensure my clients are involved in the process because their ideas need to come to fruition. Another trait that sets me apart is that I’m an avid shopper, which is essential to present your client with the best options.
