Meet Tiffany Haas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Haas.

Hi Tiffany, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Destination Broadway is going into its 18th year! Destination Broadway is a one-week summer intensive for young aspiring performers ages 8-18, where students train daily with a range of Broadway professionals. Including Tony-award-winning actors, Broadway choreographers, Broadway music directors, Broadway casting directors, talents agents, and Disney and Nickelodeon casting professionals from right here in Orlando! Admission to the program is by audition only, and students come from all over the country. After holding the program in New York City for 15 years, we moved the summer intensive to Orlando, Florida, three years ago, and we love it.

As the owner of a large dance studio in Virginia, my mother started the program 17 years ago to connect young performers with the top professionals in the business to deepen their skill set and learn the ins and outs of the business. And also help their parents understand what it takes to have a career on Broadway.

During my Broadway career in the hit Broadway musical Wicked, I started to help take over the program and brought my career experience and professional connections to the program. The training is unbeatable; for any young performer, it is a lifetime opportunity!

You wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been smooth?
Working with driven young aspiring performers is always fantastic and inspiring. However, this generation faces a powerful distraction from social media. While social media can be a fantastic tool for promoting a business or sharing fun pictures with family and friends, it must be a substitute for everyday communication. Theatre is an in-person experience, and learning to empathize with others (which isn’t known through a screen) proposes a challenge. Destination Broadway is uniquely qualified, where students work face to face with the best people in the business, and students have their undivided attention.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?

Who else deserves credit for your story?
I had 72 “no’s” before hearing my first “yes.” That’s 72 auditions in a row where the directors behind the table said, “thank you.” Which in that world means “no thank you, next!” One of the biggest lessons I learned throughout this process was the value of perseverance and what it means never to give up. I was and still am very lucky to have my parents in my corner. They were always my strongest support system as I ventured into the career of musical theater. My book, Waiting In The Wings, is filled with stories about the journey to Broadway, the ups and downs, etc. My parents wrote the book’s final chapter, sharing their perspective during those 72 no’s.
