Today we’d like to introduce you to Brenda Torres.
Hi Brenda, can you introduce yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My background is in Hospitality & Tourism Corporate Marketing. I worked for the “big dogs,” like Bluegreen Vacations and Hilton. Between the two, it was over 10 years. Overall, I have been in the Marketing Space for over 25 years. Then, COVID happened. Naturally, like many other hospitality leaders, I was furloughed and then laid off. My strong points have always been the creative side of marketing, like writing copy, creating pretty marketing pieces, and overall brand visibility. It then made sense to open my own marketing company, Nik of Time Mktg Co – first focused on print media, South Orlando City Lifestyle, while also building a healthy portfolio of clients for other marketing services. Due to rising print costs, a byproduct of COVID, we opted to focus on “done-for-you” Social Media Management, branding, print and digital graphic design, and translations. In October of ’22, we signed an agreement with Bozanich Collaborative to add branding and product photography, professional and business videography, and a walk-in studio to our marketing services. Our studio will open in January of 2023! While our niche industries are real estate and law, we currently enjoy servicing other industries such as non-profits, estate sales, construction, roofing, candidacy campaigns, retail, embroidery, and more.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth road? – never! We started our journey in October 2020, in the heat of COVID. 2020 was a rough, challenging, and mean year! Imagine selling high-end advertising to clients who were closed, working from home, or just starting out themselves! We did it! In fact, from the time we focused on selling ads in December 2020 through March 2021, we had sold over $15k in ads! Enough to fund a high-end, direct-to-mailbox 36-page magazine to distribute close to 10k luxury homes and businesses. I must add; just before this milestone, I had lost 3 immediate family members, with my father being the last one in December, just before the holidays.
Fast forward to the 1st quarter of 2022; by that time, print costs had inflated so much over time that my profits became minimal for the passion and labor I was putting behind this project. While a very tough decision, we decided to leave the print of it behind while maintaining a social media brand and presence. We further focused on the social media and digital needs of clients.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Nik of Time Mktg Co?
We are a minority, veteran-owned business. The brainchild behind our company and its essence is my 24-year-old son Nick. We specialize in small businesses locally and abroad. Because we do so much digital work, we have clients as far as Spain! Geography is not an obstacle for us! We specialize in content in two languages – English and Spanish. Specifically, we take over our clients’ social media accounts and custom-design their posts. While branding to their colors, themes, and essence, we automatically post on their behalf while curating captions and hashtags that increase their visibility and engagement. We also create crisp and modern graphic designs for anything in print (magazine ads, postcards, rack materials) and digital media (web page content, social media banners, e-signatures.) Our top clients are in the real estate or law space.
We pride ourselves in our quick growth and sense of collaboration! We have added brand photography and professional videography, and in-studio services begin in January 2023. We want everyone to know we are grateful for the community support. As such, we are proud to share that we have volunteered and gifted our services and time to benefit The Camaraderie Foundation, A Hero for Kids, Junior Achievement, Feed & Fortify, Lift Your Gaze Foundation, and GiveLight Foundation Orlando. We are also members of the East Orlando Chamber of Commerce, WOAMTEC, BNI, and Crema de Nona. We have received two award recognitions the Veteran Business of the year award from A Hero for Kids and the 2021 Florida Latino Leaders Award from Latin Times.
How do you define success?
Success is defined by how one feels when giving to others. Success is enjoying what one does so much that it doesn’t feel like a workday. Success is when others celebrate you for what you have contributed. Success is when you have figured out that “one thing” that inches you closer to further growth over time.
