Meet Linda Karp of DK Custom Gifts

Today we’d like to introduce you to Linda Karp.

Hi Linda, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, how can you bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started with making custom stirrups for horse saddles. I started getting requests for stall signs and other engraved items. My research leads me to CNC lasers. Once purchased, a whole new world opens. I opened DK Custom Gifts to separate from the horse items and started doing wall decor, custom orders, and decorations for a holiday; as I grew, I closed the stirrup business and concentrated on growing DK. Today we average around 15-20 orders daily and have a strong following. I love what I do.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, not smooth, but challenging, and who doesn’t love a good challenge? Getting my name out and letting folks know who I am and what I can do was hard. Marketing is always a challenge, and I was no different. I started going to crafts shows and joined Etsy, Facebook, and Instagram were key to building my business.

Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Being creative is the best part of my business. People have a vision, and making that vision come to light is rewarding. My willingness to work with people sets me apart until we have what they envision. I go by the motto; if you can dream it, I can create it. Anything made from wood to acrylic is available.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you, and are any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Covid was interesting. It sent individuals online shopping. This built my business; people redecorated their homes, looking for organizers, gifts, and holiday decorations. In a nutshell, it did help me grow.
