Exploring Life & Business with Cesar Guerrero (Mr. Zis) of Soundtorium Music Services LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cesar Guerrero (Mr. Zis).

Hi Cesar; it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I am originally from Mexico. I came to the US in 2001 looking to study a music career, but schools were way too expensive. It was in 2011 that I finally got into Full Sail University to study Music Production. I was happy and excited, so I did my best, and in 2014, I graduated with honors; I was the recipient of” the Advanced Achievement award, and I gave a speech to all graduates. Music is not an accessible business, so after I graduated, most of the jobs I applied for were already taken or in a different state. I started working full-time in one of the theme parks in a coffee place (not music related), but on the side little by little, working extra hours, I started building my recording studio. In 2000 we got hit with the pandemic, and I lost my job at the theme park. I was sad and depressed like many others. So I rely on my studio as a source of income; since I couldn’t bring clients yet due to the pandemic, I started taking jobs for mixing and mastering online. Once they opened the businesses again, I started inviting people I knew to my studio, just friends and family. I started feeling more confident about advertising the studio In places like Facebook Marketplace, Offer-up, etc.; people started coming and leaving happy with my work. I was pleased that my little studio was taking its first steps. Finally, I registered my business as an LLC company and started adding more services like selling musical instruments And live music services. The name came as a combination of the word emporium and sound, and that’s how Soundtorium was born. Soundtorium is a place where we love helping local artists express themselves; we want them to feel relaxed when they come to record and excited when they listen to their music. We had the opportunity to meet great artists from all genres, hip hop, reggaeton, pop, and Christian music, among many others.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As with all businesses, when they start, there are always struggles. Mine was the fact that I was afraid of not having another job with steady paychecks coming every week like a regular job. Now all the responsibility to make money depended on me. I remember at some point talking to my wife and told her I think I would go back to work at the theme parks part-time to have something to rely on, to which she replied,” the more time you invest in another job is less time you will invest in your business, and she was right. I dedicated 100% to making Soundtorium grow and that effort paid off.

What does success mean to you?
Success is the big result of many small events. To me, success is not only measured by the amount of money you have at the bank. But instead, the balance you bring to your life with all the other pieces like family, freedom, overcoming your fears, and moving forward when things are not going according to your plan.
