Daily Inspiration: Meet Jason “TIE” Davis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason “TIE” Davis.

Hi Jason “TIE”, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a local spoken, word, visual abstract graffiti artist born in San Antonio, Texas (Go Cowboys); been going hard with my creativity in my art maybe the past 5 to 6 years based on veterans above real popular growing our community here in Orlando FL. I am also an art facilitator for an awesome nonprofit by the name of Exodus united; we teach kids positive outlets through poetry, spoken word and art. And I also work full-time; I’m a central worker for Advent Health and I am a barber. I’m also a phenomenal father of two beautiful girls 12 & 13 and a 16-year-old son. And you’re probably like yo Jason TiE how do you juggle all this… my favorite scripture in the book Bible is when Jesus speaks to the MEN about the mini talents and those that took the talents and flip them and those that buried them and when he came back for the interest on the THEM as he gave the one that was buried and gave it to the other ones WELL I’m the other ones I’m the one that didn’t bury my talents I flip all in tripled each of those and continue to do it with ease and I think when you realize you’re, I had given talents that the beautiful creator has blessed you with I guess it doesn’t seem like a lot when you find out what those gifts are.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Oh no, it’s never a smooth road being successful and being a full-time artist and working full-time being a parent so on so forth is never a smooth road the journey is never meant to be smooth it’s meant to be a journey for a reason but I’ve loved every minute of it it’s who I am and it’s what made me the artist that I am today.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a spoken word, abstract graffiti artist. I specialize in really dope shadow characters with vibrant colors with a graffiti street style. My most popular painting is my Martin Luther King. I’m really known for my poetry and some of my art around the city. My most proudest moment was when I was blessed to do a big mural project in Eatonville called RISE to refresh a dope park called Elizabeth Park that by far has been my biggest proudest moment. And I would say what sets me apart is my style; I always do a cool what I call DNA lines on all my paintings really cool intricate line work that I basically do off the top of the head. I never sketch it; I just put the marker down on the canvas and I go.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
My family, my children, good friends genuine love and respect for the arts. At the end of the day, things that you truly love usually is what inspires me,  my kids have inspired me in a lot of ways for my art by just as much as my friends I have to encourage me to keep going and to leave a legacy for them to know that they can do anything they put their mind to no matter the obstacles of life.
