Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Brown.
Hi Amanda, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I have always been a creative person, but in 2015 is when I started my journey into sewing. It all started with wanting to sew a pillow case, and then constantly progressed into what I do now. The first bags I ever made was back in 2019; I took vintage Goosebump fabric and constructed my first crossbody. I decided to make bags because I have never been a purse or tote person, and I needed something perfect for me. After my hiatus from 2020-2022, I combined my love of thrifting, vintage, and sewing to create what is In Luck Apparel.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Of course, is hasn’t been a smooth ride! I moved from my hometown in 2020, and although I had a space allocated for sewing, I barely created anything. I felt uninspired for so long! I also struggled with pricing items in order to become a profitable business, I didn’t believe in what I was making at first.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I make fanny packs, crossbody’s, pouches, and more! I specialize in making bags out of vintage and up-cycled materials, and I’m well known for taking old denim and making my own checkered pattern or taking a vintage towel and using that! I am most proud of how far I have come; looking back at my first bags I knew I still had a lot to learn. I couldn’t be where I am now if it weren’t for those Goosebump bags, and know I’ve found my style while combining my favorite things!
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
Well, I am ‘In Luck’!
Growing up, I found life hard to navigate and I felt like such an unlucky person. My dad and I bounded over how unlucky we felt, but after his passing in 2018 due to cancer, I wanted to turn my mentality around. Then in 2019, when I started my business, I took that new mentality and came up with the name In Luck Apparel
