Check Out Anthony Farese’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Farese.

Hi Anthony, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Cosplay and replica prop making is a huge passion of mine. I started cosplaying nine years ago and fell in love with the community and the amazingly talented and dedicated fans. I’ve had this constant drive to learn more and more techniques to hone my craft ever since I made my first cosplay. During the pandemic, I took up 3d printing and it opened a whole new world for me. If someone can design a 3d model for it, then it can be created. There are endless possibilities!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Sometimes when things aren’t exactly turning out right with a project it can get very frustrating. Being able to realize when it’s time to set things down and walk away has really helped to keep me from getting burnt out. I spent 6 months trying to figure out why I couldn’t get the smooth chrome-like finish I wanted on my Mandalorian helmet. It turns out I needed the assistance of a friend that fortunately works at a body shop. The 2k clear coat I was trying to apply is extremely temperature sensitive and needed a controlled environment to settle properly.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m most known for 3d printing these days. I almost constantly have something running on one of my two machines. I’m most proud of the droids I’ve built. I started out with a four-foot pit droid, and that I felt was a huge and intimidating project. I’m now halfway finished building a whopping six-foot-tall battle droid. I never would’ve seen myself taking on a project like this but I’m doing it. I love looking back at the things I’ve made and soaking in that feeling of accomplishment.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I get a lot of inspiration from other creators on the various social media platforms I’m involved in. I’ve learned anything from new painting and weathering techniques to perfecting the prints that get produced by my 3d printers. There’s always something to learn from other community members.
