Rising Stars: Meet Diyani Erika Zamora

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diyani Erika Zamora.

Hi Diyani, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi! My name is Diyani Erika Zamora, and I own @diyanis_closet on Instagram and Facebook.

My grandma introduced me to the art of what we call Crochet. At first, I thought it was too much work because I had to put in patience. At the time, putting too much patience into something was very irritating and frustrating for me.

I was 15 years old when I started to learn how to crochet. Since then, crochet has become a relaxant and my therapy. It soothes me when I’m excited, sad, angry, and bored. Crochet is for everyone, it does not have an age limit. It can be enjoyable and doable if you just put your mind to it as I did. I hope that my small business can inspire others to take up the art of crochet or just simply make others happy.

That’s why I do what I do I love when people send me videos of their family or friends’ reactions to my plushies. It is such a rewarding experience to see their eyes glow and have a smile from ear to ear.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. I started crocheting in 2020. There was A LOT of trial and error when crocheting. But I was persistent and practiced almost every day. Now my dad calls me his little spider because I’m so fast.

Last year I started to sell my plushies and products. Many of my friends and family became my biggest supporters. But this year, I believe it’s going to be my year. In two months I’ve already earned more than half of what I earned last year! Which isn’t that much in the eyes of many, but I’m very grateful for every penny I earn. Every time I get to sell something I make my little happy dance in my head. Everything I earn is going straight into my college funds.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As fiber artists, I believe we have the power to turn a boring skein of yarn into a beautiful masterpiece!

I’m mostly known for making plushies/amigurumi, roses, bees, bralettes, scrunchies, and more.

I’m most proud of my success and how all of my hard work and sacrifice has paid off. I thank God for giving me the patience and persistence He gave me. What sets me apart from others is that I make combine unique colors and make things that have never been seen before. Most of the plushies I make are patterns I bought off of Etsy, which are all linked in all of my social media posts. (I don’t like taking other people’s hard work and time and crediting it as my own. I always make sure to tag the original creator of all the patterns I use to get that fiber artist noticed as well). I sometimes create my own patterns.

For example, I’ve created patterns like my caterpillar, the big bad bunny heart plushie, my Daisy bags, and many more. Being a fiber artist means that I have to constantly put out new content every other day. I love what I do and I wouldn’t change it for the world. I appreciate everything that God has done in my life, and I appreciate how far He has taken me in this wonderful journey.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
All of the money I earn from crocheting goes straight to my college funds. I’m saving everything up so I can study and make a change in today’s society.

Down payments are required if you want a custom order, or what me to make anything that isn’t currently made. I’m spreading my art through social media hoping I’ll have a chance to be a big crochet artist one day. I love what I do and the practice of crochet is rare for us teens. So I would like to make crochet more popular and enjoyable for all ages.
