Exploring Life & Business with Angela Mikolajek of Basq Massage

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Mikolajek.

Hi Angela, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Hi there. I’m Angela. I’m a Central Florida native, a very proud mom of 5 awesome kiddos, a small business advocate, an avid reader and lover of books, and a Licensed Massage Therapist. Massage was something I always believed in. I personally knew of its amazing healing benefits. I began getting regular massages as a teenager, as I found them to be one of the only things to provide relief from my chronic lower back pain that was the result of a bad slip and fall accident that occurred when I was just 13 years old.

Over the years I visited several different massage therapists and tried several different modalities. I learned there really is no “one size fits all” approach to care. I decided to go to school and learn as much as I could formulate my own style and approach that would help me provide the absolute best, most effective care for all those I have an opportunity to treat. I want to be a part of my client’s self-care squad!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I got a late start to massage therapy, finally deciding to go back to school for it in my late 30s. Being a single mom, working a full-time job, and becoming a student again was a lot to juggle. But I had put off pursuing this dream long enough. With determination and the support of some truly amazing people around me, I pushed through and made it happen. There were certainly days when I wasn’t sure if I had what it takes to balance it all.

Those are the days I remember most now when I reflect on it all because those are the days that ultimately gave me the faith to believe in myself. I got through every single one of the challenging days. I never let the negativity win. I MADE IT. I finished school with great scores, passed my state boards, and have since launched Basq Massage, my mobile massage therapy business.

I am proud of myself. I am setting an example for my children, I am managing a business that, although in its infancy, is already proving to be a success.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Basq Massage is available for mobile massage therapy in my client’s homes or offices. I offer several modalities of care such as Swedish massage, deep tissue, Lomi Lomi, prenatal massage, cupping, and hot stone treatments, all in a setting most comfortable and convenient for my clients. Many therapists now really find a niche and dive into a particular modality of massage, which is great.

However, I want to brand myself as a therapist who is happy and available to treat people for any number of issues, not just home in on one or two particular things. If I had to choose a “perfect” client I’m drawn to, I would most likely say someone who is dedicated to understanding the symbiosis of the mind and body, and how massage is such a perfect connector of the two. I love to educate my clients about this.

I love to talk with them and truly understand their specific needs. I am honored when they choose me to be a part of their healthcare team. I am also dedicated to giving back to those in my community who work thanklessly and tirelessly to keep me and my family safe. I offer discounts to all Law Enforcement Personnel with every service, not just their first visit. It’s just my small way of saying thank you, for all that they do for us.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I have to give credit to God first and foremost. My life is rich with blessings in abundance. I couldn’t have gotten where I am without the love and constant support of my family who really held me down and kept the ship on the course when I was focused on school and starting my business.

I have so many amazing entrepreneurs around me, who have paved way for themselves and filled me with so much inspiration. I look to small business owners with so much admiration and I am honored to now be a part of that community. Lastly, to my very best friend in the world, who never let me spend even a moment thinking I couldn’t do this, no matter the setbacks or challenges, I owe it all.
