Meet Alycorn Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alycorn Beach.

Hi Alycorn, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My cosplay journey began in the early days of 2017. I had just come out of a short-lived relationship and needed something to occupy my mind. Halloween had just passed and my want to dress up had hit HARD. “People don’t dress up as characters outside of Halloween and it sucks,” I thought to myself. Until I met a group of friends that introduced me to the beautiful world of cosplay and conventions!

My very first con was MegaCon Orlando 2017 where I cosplayed Shego, from Kim Possible, and Raven, from Teen Titans. It was a HIT and I had so much fun! Since then, I’ve happily attended every year! I decided to keep going with the hobby. Though expensive, it was fueling a fire in me I didn’t know I need to light.

Today, my skills in sewing, crafting, performing, makeup, and creating have enhanced SO many thanks to cosplay. Not only has cosplay inspired all of this, but it has helped in my personal life as I find myself more confident than I used to be. And that’s definitely something I love about cosplay.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been the smoothest, even though I’ve tried my hardest to make it be. There are going to be obstacles in any project you try. Mistakes are the best lessons. Some of the struggles were mostly battles with myself. Not thinking I was good enough or I didn’t complete the project to my best ability. But at the end of the day, it’s still my own art that I love.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Recently, I’ve been well-known for my crossover cosplay of Sith Elsa. Crossover cosplays are my favorite category because I love chaos. I’m actually most proud of Sith Elsa and God of Destruction Elsa. Sith Elsa was inspired by an artwork I purchased from Joey Quintin in 2019. God Elsa was 100% my original idea for a crossover. I made everything (except the pants) and it’s my proudest project so far.

What sets me apart from others is my creativity to think of crossover ideas. Not a lot of cosplayers think crossovers, but it’s definitely one of my favorite creative things to work on.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I will never forget the year I dressed up as a witch for Halloween. My mom and dad made a haunted house and I got to perform for the first time as a witch with her cauldron in the haunted house. No one was really scared, more entertained by my dancing and “witchcraft” (me spinning water in a plastic cauldron).
