Hi Melissa, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
“Hi, My name is Melissa Powers and I am the founder and owner of A Hand In Health Massage. As a young girl, I was interested in Massage Therapy. I was fascinated by the body and its ability to heal itself so miraculously that I dug in deeper. Over the years I have researched information about massage therapy and even did my senior project in high school around massage therapy.
In high school, we were required to pick a field of study, write a research paper, take an internship in that field, conduct interviews with people in our field of choice, and present a final project of our choice at the end of the school year. All this led to me choosing my career in massage therapy as an adult.
Although I didn’t attend school right away for massage therapy after high school, I eventually made it there and had a huge sense of belonging. This was my calling! Fast forward past my education and into the career field, I learned a lot from working at another chain spa and found things that I liked and disliked about the way the spa was run. I decided that it was time to open my own business and run a massage spa the way I wanted it to run.
So, A Hand In Health Massage was born! At A Hand In Health Massage, I focus on pain patterns. Both the causes and treatment goals. All while providing a spa-like atmosphere and luxury add-ons as well! My business is client-centered. If you are there for pain management or just to relax and destress then we can accommodate our client’s therapeutic needs.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When it comes to running a business, I don’t think you will ever experience a smooth road. There will always be family/personal struggles, which I have faced that have had major setbacks in my business. I have had trouble keeping up with the day-to-day tasks of running a business but every single day I am learning new things to make me more efficient in running my business so that I can keep focusing on my clients and what they want!

At A Hand In Health Massage, I am always looking to grow and provide an ever-better client-centered experience all the time! I try to combine the clinical aspect of massage and the spa-like atmosphere to give an awesome experience to clients.
I want you to feel like any issues you came in with were addressed or you are on the way to having them under control. But I also want clients to experience the luxury part of massage too. Get pampered, have a relaxing massage, enjoy the warm glow from the salt lamps, and just overall relax in a serene atmosphere!
I think what sets me apart best is my ability to listen. I am a better listener than a talker. Everyone knows that about me. Lol. I pay attention to my client’s needs and wants, and I am already formulating what I am going to work on that day for their massage from the second they start speaking to me. During the massage, if I feel it is necessary to explain, then I explain why certain pain patterns are happening, or why I am working on a certain area or I give directions for how they can better help themselves. With their doctor’s permission of course, if needed!
If a client asks for less pressure, then I want to accommodate that. If a client doesn’t like a certain style of massage, then I want to make sure I am not performing that type of massage on them. Our clients are the basis of our service, we should be treating them exactly how they want to be treated with our professional guidance.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I believe my massage is my best characteristic. I’ve had many people come in and comment after the massage is over “Best massage ever!” or “No one has ever listened to what I was wanting until now.” I love being able to provide that to my clients!
