Exploring Life & Business with Ben Landaal of Completely Transformed

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ben Landaal.

Hi Ben, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Our company began when I took the leap to follow what God was putting on my heart, the leap to leave a great company & salary to start our own construction business. A construction business that would change the way others view contractors. We set forth to start a business built on a foundation of Christ, integrity, & honesty.

I began by doing hands-on jobs myself. A few months in, my previous company asked if I would come back part-time and do estimates for them. During this time, I went to take the contractor license exam all while estimating, building our business, and being a new father & husband. I kept telling my wife that I would pursue this and that with our business once I received my CBC license number in the mail & take on larger jobs.

In March 2020, I received my CBC license in the mail. Then we welcomed our second son into the world, all while COVID hit us. Two days after receiving my license, I received a call from my previous company that I was estimating for letting me go since there was so much uncertainty. At this point, I had no excuses. I had a business I had to grow. From this point on, I spent my time pursuing larger jobs & building processes.

Over the next 3 years, we hired our employees, purchased an office building & created a design showroom, and became a cabinet distributor. Over these years, it didn’t come easy. We got hurt by others, we hit roadblock after roadblock. The only thing that kept consistent was God’s faithfulness to us.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
NOOO – these last 5 years have been some of our hardest BUT also the most rewarding. We kept hitting roadblocks with getting the office building complete & building a warehouse.

Our trailers and office have been broken into multiple times. We’ve been hurt by clients. We’ve had employees that didn’t work out before they started. This is just to name some of the major ones. Every time we made a few steps advancing, it was 5 steps backward.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We design and renovate residential homes at a custom level. Each person is unique and their home should reflect that in a special way. We pride ourselves on integrity and quality.

We include design services from layouts to colors, fixtures & finishes then incorporate that into project management to see it through completion in a turn-key manner.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I wouldn’t consider it luck or bad luck. I would consider it God opening and closing doors. Protecting us. We’ve had challenges, but challenges bring something we can’t imagine.
