Life & Work with Nixalis Pérez Maldonado

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nixalis Pérez Maldonado.

Hi Nixalis, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
My name is Nixalis Pérez Maldonado and I am Puerto Rican. I arrived in Florida in 2020. I came from Puerto Rico looking for a better future for my family. I am the mother of two beautiful boys and a beautiful girl, Yandiel, Emilio, and Emilianis. When I was in Puerto Rico, I decided to take an online course in basic balloon decoration. But I never started a business. When we got here to Florida, I decided to take another face-to-face course to be able to catch up on what the field of balloon decoration is. I decided to start in this field because I like what decorations are but also because I find that it is a great opportunity to have self-employment that generates a good income and besides that and most importantly to have time for my family.

Since my husband was the only one who was working and I stayed at home taking care of the children since I tried to work in a Preschool Center but the profit would be little because I needed my son to be in care and it would not be a good profit what would I get being able to have the opportunity to contribute financially at home and stay at home with my children is the most important and rewarding thing for me. Before opening the page, I thought that in addition to offering decorations I could offer a variety of Puerto Rican hors d’oeuvres and that’s when I asked my older sister who has her hors d’oeuvres and desserts business in Puerto Rico to explain how I could make them. He sends me videos teaching me how to make them and I put myself into practice.

That was how I learned to make them and then I decided to open the page. Thanks to the support of all my family and another very special person who helped me create my pages on Facebook and Instagram networks so that I could start was how I got to where I am today. And confident that with God’s help and blessing my business will continue to grow.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
A great challenge along the way has been to be able to start the business fully. Well, when I got pregnant with my last baby, I was pregnant and with my other two children making decorations but with their arrival I had to stop everything.

It wasn’t until he was 5 months old that I decided to start the business fully. Another great challenge is offering my services alone with them since it is a bit complicated because they are small, but without a doubt, they are my great motivation to continue to grow the business.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I dedicate myself to making balloon decorations that my clients want so much. Also beautiful bouquets with balloons to give away on special occasions. In addition to that, I offer you some delicious Puerto Rican-style hors d’oeuvres.

Among these are bakery sweets, “pastelillitos, quesitos, and palmeritas” among others. And I can say that I am proud that my clients are always satisfied with each service that I provide. I love to please them and make my services one of great satisfaction.

Any big plans?
My future plans are to continue making my business grow every day.
