Today we’d like to introduce you to Shamara Thompson.
Hi Shamara, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Before I became an aesthetician, I was an EMT and a part of the US Navy. I loved being a public servant but my health begin to decline. In 2021, I was diagnosed with a brain stem tumor and was told that I’d never use my hands again. After having the tumor removed, I went through physical therapy and regained the use of my hands. This life-changing event shifted my focus and I began to live again.
I’ve always loved skin care and everything cosmetic. I decided to enroll in beauty school and completed my medical aesthetician licensing. I also completed my Electrologist license and became Board Certified. I love what I do and providing skin care treatments became therapy for me.
I have all of my motor functions and I am thriving. I now have my own business Travel Ready Skin. I provide treatments such as facials, laser hair removal, tattoo removal, and permanent makeup. Stay tuned as there is much more to come.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’ve struggled with building a brand that I am proud and confident in. I realized that comparing myself and my journey robs me of my joy. I never want to forget why I started this journey in the first place.
We’ve been impressed with Travel Ready Skin, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Travel Ready Skin is a brand that combines luxury skincare with bucket list destinations through scent and sound. I focus on clean and refreshed skin, permanent cosmetic and medical makeup, and hair removal. I love luxury travel and found it hard to keep up with a good skin routine while traveling. I then decided to assist others in prepping the skin for any destination they wish to visit.
All treatments are named after destinations that we all wish to visit. What sets us apart from other brands is clean products. All products used are vegan and free of harmful chemicals. Medical tattooing is near and dear to my heart as I have a permanent scar from surgery.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory is sitting with my mom planning out my wedding colors as a little girl. I know so random.
