Today we’d like to introduce you to Gina Sais Quoi.
Hi Gina, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I’m a pro wrestler based in Orlando known as The Voodoo Queen and my small business is also voodoo-themed; I make perfumes, soaps, candles, and voodoo dolls.
My mom taught me how to make perfume when I was young, she created her own small business named The Underground Scent Plant and made her own perfumes, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, and lotions…I’m glad she passed her creativity down to me! I was 16 when I created my first four batches of original perfume scents and launched them at a fashion show I held in Connecticut. At that time, I also created a clothing line and participated in fashion shows throughout Connecticut and New York City, and included my perfume as a special feature at each event.
When I moved to Florida ten years ago, I started incorporating the voodoo theme into my brand. In voodoo, the saints are called Loa and each has their unique personality; the fragrances I make now are named after Voodoo Loa and embody what each of them loves. For example, the voodoo guardian of the crossroads is named Papa Legba and he is the first Loa to speak to before you can have a connection to any other Loa. The crossroads is the place where our world meets the world of the dead…you call on Papa Legba when you need help in any way – if you need obstacles removed in your life, if you seek guidance on life situations, if you crave new opportunities in life, or if you need something more he can be the connection you need to communicate to another Loa who could support you in other ways.
Go to a crossroads and give Papa Legba an offering of something he likes to get something from him in return…he is an old man walking with a cane with a hobble in his step (as one leg is still stuck in the underworld) he holds a pipe in his mouth and a bottle of rum in his pocket and he’ll be happy to communicate with you if you give him some tobacco, more rum, something hot and spicy to warm his cold bones, or at the very least give him some candy! Also, all Loa’s love perfume, so you can even give him the one I created just for him with an essential oil blend of sweet tobacco, clove, bay rum, black pepper, rosemary, white birch, blue sage, patchouli, and sandalwood. It’s like you’re there with him, standing at the crossroads.
In 2019, I started my wrestling journey in Orlando and carried my love for voodoo into this part of my life and named my wrestling character The Voodoo Queen. I make all my outfits by hand and incorporate New Orleans voodoo into my style with Mardi Gras beads sewn into my gear and my face painted like a voodoo skeleton. I make voodoo dolls of my opponents and can make one of you too!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Everything I make contains 100% essential oils with a scent inspired by the Voodoo Loa.
The soaps are coffin-shaped and have a secret gemstone hidden inside that’s also shaped like a coffin! The candles also have the secret coffin stone hidden inside, and on my shop’s website, you can find out what your crystal means. I currently have eight Loa scents: Papa Legba, Marie Laveau, Erzulie Fréda, Baron Samedi, Maman Brigitte, La Sirene, Ayida Wédo, and Damballah.
I also make custom voodoo dolls – you choose the hair color and style (made with real human hair!), add any tattoos and piercings, and choose your color of button eyes along with the doll’s outfit and shoes. Make one of yourself for good luck, or make one of your enemies add a little razzle-dazzle to their life.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
The personal care product industry is always changing, my favorite part of growing with this industry is that I can learn about new ingredients and find new projects I can get my hands into.
I’m not too sure what direction trends will go in this industry, but I do hope my trend of Voodoo care products catches on.
