Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
My name is Courtney, and I own Viera Tanning Lounge. I have loved tanning since I was 16 years old. Tanning to me was relaxing and a great boost of confidence. I was a stay-at-home mom for the last 2 1/2 years and decided to open my own business. I wanted to be a role model to my two boys. I love supporting local businesses, especially women-owned businesses. I think it’s wonderful to empower each other, support each other, and help others succeed in their passion. Being a small business, I wanted to offer the services at my Lounge for a fair price. I have been ripped off many times by big corporations.
Another thing is I wanted to offer my customers water, soda, and monthly members champagne & wine, all complimentary. So they knew I appreciated their business. I want my customers to feel like family. When you support me, you put groceries on my table and diapers on my babies. That means everything to me! I hope to build a good relationship with my community. We offer UV tanning, sunless options, red light soon waxing, make-up, hairstyles, and even more things to come soon!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been smooth. The whole process of trying to open was a struggle. We paid multiple companies to do work, but they took their money and never returned to finish the job. We were months behind our opening date. I am happy with the outcome, but many days before opening, I would walk in and just be disappointed, overwhelmed, stressed, and discouraged.
