Daily Inspiration: Meet Alicia Hanson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Hanson.

Alicia Hanson

Hi Alicia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I have had a mild obsession with Mid-Century Homes, having grown up with a love for architecture, Danish Architecture. In my teen years, I lived in a neighborhood in Hawaii Kai on Oahu that was influenced by mid-century style with single-level block homes with breezeway blocks and indoor-outdoor living feel. From Hawaii, we moved to a neighborhood of mid-century brick homes, and we had an aqua and black tile bathroom. Then, after living in California and discovering Mid-Century style homes was a thing. We used to drive over to Palm Springs in the winter with my husband and sons, and they would skateboard at the skatepark, and I would drive around photographing amazing houses and furniture shopping. I then discovered neighborhoods in LA, Orange County, and San Diego County that were built by Eichler and continued down the MCM Rabbit Hole. When we moved back to Hawaii for a few years, my daughter’s school was built by Vladimir Ossipoff, and we discovered another mid-century style I had yet to see that I love. So, when we moved to Florida, I started looking for affordable mid-century homes. Florida had a lot of hidden gems, and it was as popular and a bit undiscovered still in Florida. So, I jumped at the opportunity to help showcase cool mid-century homes for sale.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
So far, it’s been a smooth road. I hope to grow the website and social media presence; I would like to get my real estate license and sell homes in the MCM Niche and, additionally, maybe have a mid-century furniture staging business to help sellers stage their homes in the best possible way to make their homes shine because Florida has some real gems in vintage furniture and architecture.

Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an Artist, Designer, and Entrepreneur. I have a few businesses. My Husband and I create Automotive and hot rod-themed jewelry styled after Mid-Century Muscle Cars, and Lead Sleds called Hi Octane Jewelry.com. We also have a Botanical line of jewelry called SilverBotanica.com that is more nature-inspired with an Asian Boho vibe. I am also an Environmental Graphic Design Director. I create themed experiences with Signage and Branding in built spaces. My husband and I bought a mid-century home in DeLand that we have been renovating. We also teach Lost Wax Casting and silversmithing Classes through our website, LearnLostwaxcasting.com. I started this site because I really would love to remodel mid-century homes and sell them. I love fixing up unique homes. I also am the Environmental Design Director for Creative Sign Designs. I design unique signs for Commercial, Multi-family, Retail Centers, and Residential communities. I would love to create a Mid-century community here in Florida: Mad Men meets Margaritaville with a twist of atomic and space age.

How do you define success?
For me, it’s small wins like creating a piece of jewelry, learning a skill or product that people love, creating a unique experience or space in their home that brings joy, or teaching students a new skill.
