Today we’d like to introduce you to DeAudra Thomas.
Hi DeAudra, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born and raised in Tallahassee, Fl. I started braiding first while in high school. I was just trying to make some money of course. Never really took it serious then. I would braid my hair, family and friends throughout college as well. I eventually took a interested in makeup my senior year in high school. My best friend mom would teach me about makeup because I knew absolutely nothing about beauty products at that time. Definitely was a plus before entering college. Lol. Being introduced to makeup sparked my journey in the beauty industry. I began to service all types of clients. I’ve had the opportunity to service multiple wedding parties, photo shoots, reality tv clients (jhonni blaze & Khadijah to name a few) and also be apart of New York Fall Fashion week as a backstage artist. As we entered into 2020, I was working at Advent Health and COVID came full force. It was at the moment, I felt I needed to make a change. I was giving more to my job than my own dreams. I was searching for freedom with my career and a space where I could create. I decided to braid again. It was cost efficient, little investment but with a greater reward. Thankfully, I trusted in myself to leave what was no longer growing me and stepped out on faith. I manifested exactly what I was praying for. Braiding became a outlet for me. The progress I have made in such a short period of time has shown me that once we step in purpose we will profit abundantly.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Working for myself will never be a smooth road. Sometimes I become unmotivated but it’s the passion for me that keeps me going. It’s the mindset of me wanting to carry on a legacy that carries on well after I have passed on. I struggle often but I’m learning everyday to be patient with myself and my flourishing business. I’m learning to overstand that if it was easy, everybody will be working towards entrepreneurship. My road is clear some days and some days it’s a lot of debris but I wouldn’t change it.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in beauty. I am a braider/makeup artist. I am most proud of my work ethic and let’s not forget about my clients who loves me down. Lol. As far as setting me apart, what I have learned is great customer service will take you a long way. I make sure to check in on my clients to acquire feedback and just to let them know I’m here. Majority, if not all, of my client loves the comfort within my work space. They love the cleanliness and the conversations we share. I want them to feel as comfortable as possible while with me. Because of the connection alone makes them come back. I tend to have that effect on some people. Lol
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Right now my favorite book is “The Artist Way, A Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity” by Julia Cameron. I tend to listen to a lot of podcasts or read a lot on self-healing. It helps me with not just my relationship with myself but with my clients and others. Also, any marketing tools that I feel is helpful when reading books or blogs is always saved in the archive to refer back to when needed.
