Meet Cortney Likely of The Forward March Initiative

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cortney Likely.

Hi Cortney, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I grew up in a community filled with pride and hard work. Between Eustis and Mount Dora, Florida, I got to see both the up and downsides of living outside of major cities. I believe it’s my duty to try and help advance my community in education and that’s in many different things. If I can provide resources like tutoring for the youth and experts in property ownership, amongst other things, I know I’ve done my part.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road to this point has been swift. Our launch date was right before the deadline of our first community fundraiser. Since then, things are falling into place and FMI is working out the kinks along the way. Finding funding has definitely been challenging but not discouraging.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about The Forward March Initiative?
The Forward March Initiative is a non-profit organization that’s focused on providing resources to the lower-income areas beginning with the North Eastern community of Mount Dora. Here we plan to provide activities as well as tutors for children of all ages and classes held by professionals in different fields where the community can ask questions about their properties, taxes, health, insurances and much more.

How do you think about happiness?
Knowing that I’ve done what I could to help who I could makes me happy. I want to be the example my children want to follow. I want to be an inspiration to others to think of others when they can.
