Today we’d like to introduce you to Eva M @itdefines_me.

Eva M @itdefines_me

Hi Eva, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey in the world of art began in my early childhood. I was a young dancer and painter, turning my home’s couch into a canvas. At 5, my grandfather gifted me my first oil set. Ballet entered my life at 8 under the tutelage of director Lidija Franklin, and I continued my studies in Switzerland, where I earned an honorable mention in the Vaganova ballet technique. The beauty of Europe’s culture, history, and landscapes fueled my passion for visual art. Back in Caracas, I graduated as a professional ballet dancer in 1995 and joined Ballet Teatro Teresa Carreño, starting my professional career under the direction of Vladimir Issaev (currently Director of Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida in North Miami Beach, FL) and Vicente Nebrada. Two years later, my love for visual arts led me to the Miro Institute of Design, where I explored various techniques, falling in love with pastel colors. In my college years, I included art exhibits and many mentions of my work. In 2002, I took a leap of faith and moved to the USA, joining the Orlando Ballet company. Despite the demands, I immersed myself in my art, working until dawn. I exhibited in the Oval Gallery in 2003 and won third place for “Breath.” This success motivated me to open my art gallery, “Eva’s Passion Arts,” in the Mercado Marketplace, formerly the “Orlando Eye.” The gallery became a hub of cultural exchange, with commissions ranging from family to contemporary and commercial pieces. I connected with people from diverse backgrounds, forming lasting bonds with those who became collectors of my art. Over the years, my art has been in various competitions, exhibitions, and prestigious venues globally. My pieces have been exhibited at the Orlando Museum of Art, the Orlando Science Center, the Lake Eola Arts Festival, the Mount Dora Art Festival, and the prestigious London Brick Lane Gallery. I exhibited a few times at the Red Chair event in Orlando, Florida, where I also got a Second-place winner piece. While juggling the roles of a mother and a dancer, I never let it hold back my creativity. In 2017, I returned to my true calling – blank canvases. Since then, I’ve been exploring new techniques and planning exhibitions in London, Spain, NY, Dubai, and beyond. Looking ahead to 2024, I aim to showcase my new creations and complete more murals, embracing my identity as a free-spirited human artist.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey has not been smooth, as I don’t believe such a path exists. However, I’ve learned that the key to making it feel smoother is a deep love for what I do. Taking the time to bring an art piece to life becomes a joyful process, and the satisfaction and happiness upon completion are beyond words. One significant challenge has been promoting my work. While I take pride in painting and creating, sharing it with others and witnessing their reactions is exciting and challenging. I aim for the audience to fall in love with my art, to see themselves in it, and to establish a connection without my intervention. Challenges are growth opportunities. They serve as teachers, pushing us to improve and discover our true selves. Our perspective determines whether they are perceived as obstacles or valuable challenges.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a versatile artist who wears many hats, driven by a deep love for creating. In the mornings, I dive into graphic design, creating marketing materials primarily for dance companies and organizations—an area that aligns effortlessly with my passion. During the afternoons, I step into the role of Mrs. Eva, the ballet teacher. I find immense joy in inspiring the younger generation to embrace the world of dance, especially ballet’s disciplined and passionate art. Twice a year, we work together to create choreographies, allowing the students to showcase what they have learned during classes. Another hat I wear is that of a decorator and event planner. For the past few years, I’ve dedicated my time to crafting hand-painted characters for main party tables, creating themed environments for kids and adults to celebrate special moments. This involves working with balloons, colors, vendors, and photographers. Additionally, three times a year, I coordinate and collaborate with a fantastic team of professionals in the dance world for the Miami International Ballet Competition. This event brings together over 100 dancers, showcasing their talent, competing for scholarships and awards from international schools, and promoting connections within the dance community. I’m most proud of everything I do because it revolves around dance, art, and creativity. It allows me to express my creativity while inspiring and connecting with new and old generations. What sets me apart from others is simply being myself. I pursue what I love to do, always aiming to exceed my expectations. My passion and energy are infused into everything I do—whether it’s a small or large endeavor, I put my heart and soul into it.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Wow! So many! The journey has been a continuous learning experience, and there isn’t just one most important lesson—there are so many. I believe that as long as we keep learning, we continue to nourish our souls and avoid inactivity. If I had to pinpoint a few crucial lessons, one would be my ongoing journey in prioritizing my time with my art. I aspire to inspire diverse audiences, adorn more communities, and see my art on numerous walls, serving others in various ways. I’ve learned that art is not confined to a single interpretation; it connects with those open to forming a connection with it. Another valuable lesson is to refrain from judging a book by its cover. Talking about my art with everyone has been a transformative experience. As someone who used to be a spectator, hearing genuine feedback from viewers has been enlightening. It’s fascinating how people can perceive the same painting from different points of view or perspectives, discovering unique emotions based on their experiences. These connections are precious to me, as my creations reflect my feelings and a means to connect with the world. Ultimately, I’ve learned that everything falls into place when you are in the right environment surrounded by the right people.
