Meet Lindsay Widdall of Dynamite Studio, Inc.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Widdall.

Lindsay Widdall

Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
My Journey to being a co-owner and photographer at Dynamite Studio, Inc. started in the UK with a BSC (Hons) in Biology. It is different from the usual start to a career as a photographer in Florida. I’ve looked for freedom and adventure my whole life, so at 18 years old, I started Skydiving. After finishing my degree in England at 21, I decided to travel the world and ended up in New Zealand, working at a skydiving center packing parachutes. Although packing parachutes was a good job, I wanted to be in the air. I looked at some other people in the company strapping cameras to their helmets and filming tandems and figured that was the way to go. So I did just that: I bought a video and stills camera, mounted them to my helmet, and jumped out of planes with people capturing their tandem experience. I worked in NZ, Australia, Spain, Norway, and Turkey and ended up in Florida. I liked the lifestyle and things to do in Central Florida, so I stayed a while. 15 years later, and I’m still here. After more than a decade of traveling and working in the skydiving industry, I was ready for a change. I started looking into local photography companies and met with Kellie Warren, who ran her thriving company. We hit it off immediately and decided 2 brains were better than one, and we’d go into business together. Dynamite Studio, Inc. was born in 2012 and has been going strong.

Let’s dig deeper into the story – has it been an easy path, and if not, what challenges have you overcome?
It has been a pretty smooth road for us with Dynamite Studio, Inc. We started small and worked our butts to get to where we are today. Kellie is creative, and I’m much more logical and organized – it’s the perfect combination for a photography company. People assume the best photographers get all the work, but that’s only partially true. Yes, you need to have some serious photography chops, but you also need to know how to run a business to have a successful photography company. It’s more than just showing up to jobs and pressing buttons on a camera. Developing client relationships and constantly keeping up with the technology and advertising strategies are just as important. Once you get up to a place you want to be, you have to continue to work your butt off to stay there. So yes, a smooth road – but a long one, with a lot of dedication needed.

As you know, we’re big fans of Dynamite Studio, Inc. What can you tell our readers who might need to be more familiar with the brand?
Dynamite Studio, Inc. is a professional photography and videography company based in Orlando, FL. We have 2 owners/lead photographers and a small team of contractors. We specialize in lifestyle and advertising photography, but you’ll also find us at many large corporate events in Orlando. Having 2 lead photographers working together is unusual, and that, along with our relaxed but efficient way of working, sets us apart. We have over 15 years of experience each and some of the best equipment you can buy. I’m proud to have created a company that not only delivers excellent photos and exceptional service but also has a lot of fun doing it, and our clients seem to have fun, too. So many people feel uncomfortable in front of the camera, and I see it as my job to make that person feel so relaxed that I get a genuine smile – not one like Chandler from Friends.

We’d like to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
You make your luck in life! Work hard, stay positive, and don’t let the negatives take over. I firmly believe you can do anything if you don’t let your brain (or people around you) tell you that you can’t.
