Daily Inspiration: Meet Bryce Thompson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryce Thompson.

Bryce Thompson

Hi Bryce, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My 8-year journey as a Christian DJ changed for the better, moving from Gaithersburg, Maryland, to Orlando, FL, with nothing but an idea. I, Bryce G, took a leap of faith with a vision to create faith-based parties for Christian creatives to hang out, network, and celebrate. At first, the idea appeared lofty due to burdensome circumstances (no job, money, car, or home). Still, I worked on my craft and surrounded myself with Christian artists like Kenny Rivers, Alex Jean, and Caleb Gordon, who were visionaries like myself, which was what drew me to Orlando in the first place. My service towards these artists would initially seem to be a setback because I was turning down wedding and church gigs (that paid a somewhat decent amount) to DJ for Christian rappers in front of small crowds in obscure locations. Over time, my peers and partners in the arts began to get National attention on social media with their excellent yet edifying music, and my platform garnered attention as a source for discovering good Christian music through my tasteful mixes and valuable presentations of “Christian music to add to your playlists.” This continued to grow until it was finally time to host my events and present these mixes in person for my friends to enjoy. I knew starting was ideal, so my first party was a whopping 15-20 people in a small photography studio. Believe it or not, this party was amazing, and I knew I had something special. But I sat on the idea for a little while to continue serving my friends at their concerts. The breakthrough moment was when I DJ’d for a friend in Atlanta and posted a now-viral video captioned “POV: You’re at a Christian Club in Atlanta.” This sparked the idea and movement of Christian clubs for all to witness now. I decided to bring this business model to Orlando, and through prayer, bible study, and wise counsel, I confidently launched Joyful Noize on September 15th, 2023, with my newlywed wife, Imani Thompson. This sold-out event of 100 attendees was a beautiful experience, and everyone demanded that I host the event at least once a month. Now, 7 months later, garnering over 10 Million views online and selling over 1,500+ tickets so far, we’ve been able to make some noise in the city and bring together believers of all ages and demographics to dance, sing, celebrate, and fellowship in a unique, yet inspiring way.

Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
No, it’s not smooth at all. We’ve faced much backlash and hate online, and it’s frequent. People worldwide who disagree with this concept have deemed it destructive, misleading, and downright awful. They can’t conceptualize the idea of a “club” for Christians because of the connotation that comes with both keywords. “Christian Club” can almost feel like an oxymoron in some ways. So, there has been a deliberate effort to persuade and convince the public to stay away and condemn this event. Another challenge with simply running a business and being a newlywed is not having all the things you need to have. This is a fresh endeavor for us, and mistakes will inevitably be made along the way. That can get discouraging; sometimes, we must be equipped to run the business efficiently. The other challenge with this business is getting help from the right people. Plenty of people want to be a part of this movement and business, but discerning people who are willing to help with the right motives and abilities take trust in the God-given vision, continue prayer, and have patience with His promises.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might need to become more familiar with what you do, what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a DJ by title. But this role I have goes beyond being a typical DJ. I consider myself a celebration expert, master gatherer, and reflection of holy hospitality. I’m known for hosting concerts and parties, curating playlists and mixes, and producing music and creative content. I’m most proud of the impact Joyful Noize has made online and in the state of Florida so far. I’m set apart from other DJs because my music is edifying, clean, and positive but still tasteful and skillfully presented. I work with artists and mentor and counsel them when needed, and my marriage has brought a well-rounded approach to my service to both men and women thanks to the wisdom & perspective shared by my wife, Imani.

We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Can you share something that might surprise us?
Although, as a DJ, I’m usually in loud and somewhat controlled chaotic environments, I prefer to be in peaceful settings and desire to relax with a small, select group of people more than anything.
