Exploring Life & Business with Richard Martinez of Little Citizens of Future

Today we’d like to introduce you to Richard Martinez.

Richard Martinez

Hi Richard, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, let’s briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
My education and strategic management journey has been enriching and fulfilling, marked by a continuous pursuit of excellence and innovation. It all began with a strong foundation in business administration, which provided me with a holistic perspective on organizational dynamics and market strategies.

Following my passion for education, I pursued further studies, obtaining specializations in Educational Management and Marketing Management, along with a Master’s in Strategy, Innovation, and Competitiveness. These academic pursuits laid the groundwork for my professional journey, equipping me with the necessary tools to navigate the complexities of the educational landscape.

My career trajectory led me to assume multiple roles at Colegio Mixto Ciudadanos del Futuro, where I serve as the Administrative and Financial Director. In this capacity, I have been instrumental in designing and implementing innovative strategies to drive growth and sustainability while ensuring academic excellence and national/international recognition for the educational community.

Furthermore, I initiated the internationalization chapter of the school, facilitating opportunities for students to pursue virtual studies and internships in cutting-edge fields like hybrid car technology in the United States. Collaborations with institutions like the University of Celaya in Mexico have also led to favorable terms for students, graduates, and faculty members, further enhancing our global footprint.

I am excited to embark on a new national impact project focused on STEAM education in early childhood in the United States. Leveraging my extensive educational background and passion for innovation, I am committed to empowering young learners with essential skills and knowledge to shape their future academic and professional trajectories.

In conclusion, my education and strategic management journey has been characterized by a steadfast dedication to excellence, innovation, and collaboration. I look forward to continuing to make meaningful contributions to the field and sharing my expertise with fellow professionals to advance the collective goals of the education industry.

Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
In my case, my passion for education has been an inherited pleasure. Since my maternal great-grandmother, we have been dedicated to transforming lives through education and values formation, where the family is the core of a just and free society. From a very young age, I accompanied my mother, who started her educational project from scratch, which has had a trajectory of over 35 years, of which I have been a part and have been directing since 2017, where we educate children and youth from early childhood to the beginning of their higher education.

Leading a group of over 80 teachers and 1300 students in my early years as a professional was quite a challenge. However, my determination to live in a constant learning process allowed me to obtain three postgraduate degrees, which provided me with tools to have a holistic view of the educational system and find opportunities to transform lives by understanding the demands of the new century and integrating them with innovative strategies.

Undoubtedly, the pandemic was a challenge we will always remember as entrepreneurs, executives, teachers, parents, and students. Conceptually and emotionally, even four years after COVID-19, we continue to see the aftermath it left in our society: cognitive problems for the youngest who experienced their early years of learning through a screen and, above all, emotional problems in a generation where interpersonal relationships were most affected.

Lastly, this new challenge called Little Citizens of Future has been the realization of a dream that is increasingly becoming a reality. The ongoing convergence of all my knowledge acquired during my professional formation through a disruptive and innovative methodology shapes the citizens of the future. For over three years, we have been structuring a pedagogical plan to internationalize our educational offerings, and I saw a massive opportunity in the US market. It will have a significant national impact because it has a business focus and a tremendous social horizon through supporting foundations and non-profit organizations. It involves educating parents in vulnerable situations and guiding STEAM methodologies with their children, with practical and accessible resources for all.

Entrepreneurship is a journey of triumphs and learning because each fall, each difficulty makes you grow and helps form a more complete vision of life. It teaches you that nothing is static and that humans must flow with changes. Thus, our pedagogical model based on STEAM methodologies in early childhood is dynamic and innovative to meet the demands of an increasingly changing society.

I appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Little Citizens of the Future?
Little Citizens of the Future’s educational project of innovation and pedagogical transformation, centered on the STEAM approach, is built on the premise of providing an education that transcends traditional conventions and prepares children to face the challenges of the 21st century. This approach recognizes the urgent need for education to take an active role as a creator, socializer, and transformer, thus leading the necessary societal changes. Education is conceived as a means for the integral formation of active social subjects committed to the renewal of society.

Education is projected toward their future growth by focusing on the holistic development of human beings, including their heritage, evolution, inherent and acquired personality, as well as their physiological, psychological, cognitive, spiritual, axiological, and cultural aspects. We advocate for an education based on the human and technological development model that promotes opportunities for life, the development of freedom, and the pursuit of happiness for all learners.

Nussbaum’s perspective on the importance of education for global citizenship urges us to foster a sense of empathy, social responsibility, and critical awareness in students. Therefore, striving for genuinely transformative education that seeks to develop bright minds and compassionate hearts and citizens committed to building a fairer and more sustainable world is relevant.

In this context, Little Citizens of the Future has designed a pedagogical proposal to foster critical thinking skills and the ability to tackle complex problems, thus strengthening students’ intellect and character. Integrating science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics, the STEAM model provides the ideal framework for promoting interdisciplinary thinking and active exploration.

By implementing practical and collaborative projects, students can apply theoretical concepts to real-world situations, stimulating their curiosity and capacity to establish meaningful connections across different areas of knowledge. This project’s core lies in problem-based learning, where real-world challenges become valuable learning opportunities.

Recognizing that mere mastery of academic concepts is not enough to prepare students for the near Future, it is essential to cultivate skills such as collaboration, problem-solving, and creativity so they can thrive in an increasingly complex and interconnected world. Little Citizens of the Future’s educational project aims not only to change the educational methodology but also to rethink the very purpose of education in the 21st century, ensuring processes that promote intellectual development and human flourishing in all its fullness.

Can you talk to us about the role of luck?
Luck combines effort, work, dedication, and perseverance, all at the right time and moment, as not all markets are ready for specific products or services. Luck lies in the cleverness to read the needs demanded by society and ingeniously create solutions that contribute to humanity’s development.
