Exploring Life & Business with Athana Cherisol

Today we’d like to introduce you to Athana Cherisol.

Hi Athana, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hello, thank you for the opportunity to be able to tell you guys my story. I am actually a registered nurse and in working in the medical field, it can be stressful at times so it is always good to pick up a hobby. Well, my hobby came out of nowhere because growing up, I have never baked a cake or even thought of doing so. Until one day I went to pick up a cake from my local bakery and as I looked around I thought to myself maybe, I should start baking on the side? So that night, I went on YouTube and researched how to bake a cake and how to design. I thought to myself, I can probably do this so the next day I went to Walmart and Joanne’s and bought all the supplies I thought I needed and made my first cake which was not the best looking but I thought with more work I will be able to become a better baker and maybe start a business.

As time went on with numerous trials and errors, I began to make cakes for my family and coworkers just so they can sample and I always received great feedback. I then decided I was ready to take the next step and start my business and that was when Athanas Cakery was established in 2018 and from there, it took off and I haven’t looked back since. I am now working as a part-time nurse and working full-time as a baker creating custom cakes and treats. At times I still can’t believe I was able to create a business from a thought that suddenly came to me but I am grateful for all of the wonderful vendors and support my community has given me throughout this process. I still feel I have a lot more to learn but I am willing to learn to make room for growth and to continue to provide happiness no matter the occasion.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’ve had to overcome a number of obstacles along this journey. Being self-taught, I had to start learning everything from the basics. Many times the cakes had to be redone because they didn’t meet the standard that I had set for myself. Self-taught or not, I wanted to be able to present a quality piece of work every single time. In the beginning, I was also still working full-time as a nurse. I had many restless nights trying to balance my two passions at one time. My decision to go part-time was bittersweet, but it allowed me to have more time to perfect my craft. And for that reason, I have no regrets.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Athana’s Cakery is a business that caters to anyone and any occasion. We specialize in cakes and treats for weddings, corporate parties, baby showers, birthday parties, you name it. Whether it’s a grand event like a wedding or something more intimate like date night or a small gathering, we’re happy to help. One thing that sets us apart and that I am extremely proud of is the quality of our cakes and delicacies. We use ingredients of the highest standard and it makes a difference. Creating a piece of art is one thing, but getting that artwork to taste as good as it looks is incredibly special.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
The best way to support and collaborate with us is by reaching out via Instagram (athanas_cakery). I have collaborated with several different vendors in the Central Florida region and hope to have the opportunity to broaden my network very soon. It’s a fun and exciting way to build rapport with others in the community.
