Today we’d like to introduce you to Keith Kong.
Hi Keith, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Thank you for having me! For as long as I can remember, I’ve been obsessed with understanding humans and how we operate. When I turned 11 years old I started learning magic and by the time I was in high school I had shifted into specializing in mentalism because of the psychology behind it and the lasting impression that it made on the people that I performed for.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My path hasn’t been without its share of challenges. Transitioning to a full-time performer was a struggle, particularly in building my client base. I quickly realized that to succeed, I needed to wear many hats-marketer, graphic designer, salesperson, bookkeeper, and customer support specialist. The business side of showbiz is often overlooked, leading many talented performers to struggle to make a living.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on? What are you most proud of and what sets you apart from others?
I’m a mentalist, which is like a professional mind reader. If you think of a magician as somebody who performs sleight of hand, think of me as someone who conducts slight of mind. It’s like magic but often slightly more sophisticated. I specialize in corporate events that want to add something engaging and impactful to the agenda. Usually, clients want to make the event more fun and memorable, so I can come in and deliver their important messages in some of the most exciting and entertaining ways possible. So far, I’m most proud of having fooled Penn & Teller on their national television series, “Fool Us” where I brought home the trophy in season 7. I would say that my genuine interest in the psychology that goes into mentalism and even far beyond that is what sets me apart from others. I earned a college degree in psychology with certificates in criminal profiling and a history of beta testing programs designed for reading body language.
Let’s end by discussing what matters most to you and why.
What matters most is staying happy, healthy, peaceful, and prosperous. Of course, a lot plays into maintaining those things, such as close connections with family and friends. Regarding my job, I want to give the best show possible. I can provide people with a moment they’ll remember for the rest of their lives, and I would like to take you with me so that you can see people’s reactions regularly. I do this because of the impact that it can have on someone.
