Conversations with Sarah Kraiter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Kraiter.

Sarah Kraiter

Hi Sarah, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started baking when I was very young. I learned a lot from my mother. She is a very talented home baker. I still call her with baking questions to this day. My baking is internationally known. I mostly bake for my husband’s coworkers at EPCOT. So, the Cast Members at the Mexico, Norway, China, and American pavilions are well-fed. My knitting is a different story. A friend taught me how to knit when I was in my twenties. At that time, I was going through some mental health issues. Knitting became my coping mechanism. Twenty years later, I’m still knitting away.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Creating is tough. Perfectionism is my biggest struggle when knitting or baking. Sometimes, I don’t want to knit. In those days, I never liked the finished product; I forced myself to knit. I usually end up ripping out what I knit on my bad days. The same goes for baking. I’ve thrown out baked goods because they didn’t meet my standards. My husband is a creative, too. He understands my struggles and is always there to support me, and I am eternally grateful for that.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might need to become more familiar with what you do, what can you tell them about what you do?
My specialty in knitting is socks. I love watching them take shape. Knitting the heels can be challenging, but I thoroughly enjoy it. In certain circles, I’m more well-known for my baking. People know me for my cookies. The most loved sweet I have made is buttered popcorn cookies. It sounds weird, but it works!

How can people work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?
Right now, the support I need is primarily financial. Good quality yarn costs a whole lot of money. Baking ingredients also add up. I need commissions! I also appreciate the kind words my family and friends have for me. My husband is my biggest supporter, and I am his.
