Today we’d like to introduce you to Christine Carpenter.
Hi Christine, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started Littera in June 2018 after moving to Orlando from Baltimore. During the move, I decided to take a break from my previous career as a pastry cook. At first, calligraphy started off as a hobby to fill the new downtime I had on my hands and making gifts for my family. Shortly after, the business took on a life of its own and blossomed to creating custom home decor gifts for locals, teaching calligraphy workshops and selling goods at pop-up events. I did not get into the wedding industry until 2019 when I took part in a wedding show and never looked back. Littera now offers bespoke designs, stationery and signage for weddings and events.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was definitely nerve-wracking to take my company in a new direction during the pandemic. The wedding industry took a hit as weddings started to postpone and cancel out altogether. As heartbreaking as it was to hear of couples having to adjust their wedding dates, it also made things a bit tricky for me to get started in the industry. However, this turned out to be a huge blessing as it opened up so many opportunities for me to collaborate with some amazing industry professionals on styled shoots. These styled shoots helped to keep me inspired and gave me hope that the event industry will eventually make a comeback.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Littera specializes in bespoke designs, stationery and signage for weddings and events. In short, I focus on working together with my clients in creating custom stationery or signage for their events. My pieces often use calligraphy and typography designs, focusing on minimalist and simple styles. I love tying in details from the event such as aesthetics, color schemes or even floral designs to make each piece flow organically with the rest of the decor. Coming up with something completely different and unique is always a fun part of what I do, but what I really enjoy is being able to get to know my clients and be able to tell their story through these pieces.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I am always open to meeting and collaborating with local creatives and small businesses! I mainly focus on creating items for weddings, but I love working with locals just as much. Just send me an email with your ideas and we will begin brainstorming possibilities!
