Meet Marisa Alvarado

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marisa Alvarado.

Marisa Alvarado

Hi, Marisa. We’re so excited to have you on the platform. Before we get into questions about your work life, how can you bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I have always been intrigued by the beauty and mastery of artists and their works. The same rings true with photography. I always aim to capture moments and feelings with my work, and that has never been more true or closer to home. I recently lost my grandfather, who battled with his health for the last few months. Looking back on photos and drawings we gifted each other keeps those memories and his spirit alive. It’s something so precious that I used to take it for granted.

Please talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned. Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I have been blessed with one of the most excellent support systems anyone could ever request. From family to friends near and far, I have many in my corner who uplift and encourage my journey. Has it been easy? Not, most especially now that I am starting fresh, giving up my teaching career, which I was so passionate about, to reach for the greatest dream and a Master in Fine Arts. The decision was challenging and required a great deal of courage on my part, as I usually reside in the realm of comfort and hide in the background. I had always encouraged my students to shoot for their dreams. Chalking across the country and all my travels opened my eyes to a world of possibility. I would have been a hypocrite if I did not follow the advice I strongly believed for my students.

Thanks. What else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Primarily, I am a fine artist and photographer. I am detail-oriented and a hyperrealist when it comes to art. Returning to one of my previous responses, we take so much for granted unless we awaken to something. Our world is and can be an extraordinary place. So much makes up our surroundings, both living and artificial, and ourselves. To capture that level of detail while having an emotional impact or a subject that I can connect to as well as others is what I strive for.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
If I could share anything, it would be this advice: no wall is too big, no height is too unattainable. You stand in your way. Be brave and know in your heart what you want. Trust in it. Let it lead you with courage and caution, of course. You were placed on this earth with a purpose. You are more than enough and can achieve all you could ever dream of.
