Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Tossi
Hi Megan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
At a young age I was fascinated by poetry, words and rap. I have been a writer ever since I can remember. I found it fascinating to rhyme and tell a story while doing so. Once I got to my early twenties, I realized recording and publishing music was more feasible than I thought. So I finally started doing so and released my first song in 2021. Throughout these years, I have made many connections on social media, at events and through people I meet. Over time, I have grown more as an artist and in successes. I am currently working on my debut album now.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. While being a recording artist I have had my fair share of troubles. I have Crohn’s Disease, Perianal Crohn’s Disease and Colitis. I have been hospitalized five times since 2020, bitten by a shark while surfing in 2020, had an estimated amount of 10-15 ER visits since 2020, was in rehab in 2020 for severe Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and paranoia, had a house fire in 2023 and have numerous, constantly accruing medical bills that prevent me from funding my music like I would like to. I also tragically lost two of my pastors in the range of three weeks this past May. These pastors were family to me and they were only in their fifties. I have always been a fighter and determined, so I have not allowed these things stop me, but rather, to push me further. I know I have many more challenges than the average 26 year old, but I will not let that stop me. I, rather, aim to use my hardships and obstacles to help others and to glorify Jesus Christ. Jesus is truly the only reason I can push through, that I have immense peace and that I never took my life when things seemed they would never get better.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Christian hip hop artist, digital designer, aspiring producer and drummer. I am known for my unique voice, unique flow, unique cadence, passion and for real talk. I like to talk about things in my songs that are raw. I believe people need to hear that they are not alone in their struggles, even if the struggles are taboo. I am also known for my adlibs and for my passion for the Great Commission. I was a missionary in my early twenties to the Caribbean and have done missions work in Latin America as well. I am known for my brand, “Let’s Go Global”, which carries that heart and passion and aims to motivate others to share the Gospel to the nations and to help others and love others no matter the differences in culture, no matter how far away people may be physically, etc. We all are made in the image of God. None of us are better than anyone else. I also am known for my very passionate drumming. I am a very passionate, determined, loving person. I am most proud of my progress in music even through all the hardships that I face and have faced. That truly is solely because of my relationship with Jesus Christ. Some people may find that annoying, but if you knew Him and how He helps me so much, you would understand why I mention Him so much. What sets me apart from others is my uniqueness. I am very big on being your true self and not conforming to the norms. I like to make art that is fresh and new and unheard of. I am all about setting new standards, new ideas, new styles. I think that part of me sets me apart as well as my passion, drive, being a female doing these things, perseverance, story and my faith.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
As far as risk-taking with music, I have taken some financial risks before in which I did learn from. I have been learning to pray and be more thoughtful before I invest in things that are “risky” as far as my financial situation goes. It is good to use wisdom, not to just jump on any and every opportunity that presents itself. Not every opportunity is truly meant for you. That is what I have been learning. I have taken risks in music by using other engineers and learning I actually like their work better than who I was working with before. I also have made risks by going outside of my comfort zone by showing up at certain events and putting my name out there for certain opportunities in which I have gotten and some I have not gotten. I do think risk taking is important, but with wisdom. If you take too many risks, it can actually be a negative. As far as risk taking outside of music, yes. I definitely have done some wild things. I have almost died on the mission field before. I have jumped off a ship at night as a missionary. I was bit by a shark surfing. I also saved a family from the current while surfing. When I was an athlete I definitely took many risks in my sport.
