My business idea was born after I gave birth to my daughter. As I navigated the transition to motherhood and returned to work, I felt exhausted and burnt out. During this challenging period, I realized I had neglected self-care and was plagued by self-doubt. This experience underscored the importance of self-care, inspiring me to share its benefits with others.
I embarked on extensive market research and product testing, dedicating six months to perfecting my offerings before launching my shop on Shopify. Today, I attend markets, where I meet wonderful vendors and customers, and I am proud to have a loyal customer base.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has not been smooth for me. In addition to researching market trends and developing marketing strategies for my products, I had to keep up with the ever-changing algorithms and trends of social media. This can be overwhelming, especially in the beginning when I was trying to manage everything on the same day—a mistake that led to many late nights.
I started scheduling my content, updating my website, and editing my materials on different days to improve my workflow. This approach has helped me find a better balance, though my daughter always comes first. I’ve created a more balanced and less stressful routine.
Financially, I grew my business slowly without taking out a loan; this approach would allow me to build my brand more organically. Despite the challenges, I’ve found a rhythm that works for me and my family.

Hello, my name is Rhonda, and I am the proud owner of Wilted Willow LLC. We offer a range of bath and body products, as well as car and home products. I specialize in body oils, bath salts, body scrubs, candles, odor-eliminating wax melts, and car diffusers. My body oils are especially well-known, as they are the products I’ve refined the longest.
I’m most proud of taking the leap to start my business despite my tendency to harshly critique myself. Initially, I delayed my launch by a month, striving for perfection. In hindsight, it would have been more beneficial to launch sooner and gather customer feedback to better understand market needs.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Over the next 5-10 years, I see the bath and body industry increasingly shifting towards natural ingredients. As research and technology advance, there will be a significant focus on inclusive skincare that caters to all skin tones and types more comprehensively than ever before. This trend will likely result in a broader range of practical and environmentally friendly products, meeting consumers’ diverse needs in a more personalized and sustainable way.
