Today we’d like to introduce you to Jade Amber
Hi Jade, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My Great Grandmother was an Artist so growing up I was surrounded by her Artwork and from a young age developed a proclivity to creativity. I have carried this inclination with me throughout my life and exploring that side of myself through various jobs and educational pathways. Though I never shared my creations with other people. I quietly made things for myself and I rarely, if ever, finished anything. In the year 2020 my life completely changed, much like everyone else at the time. It was during this time that I rediscovered my love for making Art and with a lot of encouragement from my husband, I gained the confidence to submit a painting that I had made into my city’s annual Emerging Artist Competition. To my surprise and amazement my painting was accepted into the competition and I won third place. Following this, I met a wonderful community of Artists who encouraged me to get more involved. I began to participate in the Ocala First Friday Art walk. I joined the Marion Cultural Alliance as well as the Magnolia Art Xchange where I completed a 1.5 year residency. I have had work on display in group shows around the Central Florida area, participated in several live painting events, and I am currently working on a series of pieces for my first solo show.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have been many bumps along the way, but things are rarely easy that are worth doing. The primary difficulty I have had to navigate through is my struggle with myself. I’ve used Art throughout my life to cope with my mental health but that work is very personal and difficult to share. I have to really try to stay consistent in my authenticity because knowing other people are going to see it, I want to cover the parts in my work that reflect the parts of myself I wish to conceal. I get hit with terrible imposter syndrome as well, I end up wanting to call it quits because I don’t believe I deserve it.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am most proud of my adaptability as an artist. I am a multidisciplinary artist, my work fluctuates in medium and style. My goal is to take contrasting elements and find balance in them to create a sense of harmony within the piece. The resulting compositions vary widely and are often unexpected. I don’t consider myself as having a fixed style, but rather something that is growing and changing with me.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
If you have something you feel called to do, you should make the space for it in your life. It might take some creativity but we are called to create for a higher purpose. I’m very grateful for the experiences I have gained, the people I have met, and the opportunities I have been given and I look forward to what the future holds.
