Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Peoples
Jasmine, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Well I started doing hair when I was 12. For me it was a way to eat and get out of poverty if I’m being honest. Over time I grew a passion for it and now I’ve been in the beauty industry for over 25 years. I started out as a natural hair care specialist in Washington DC. Moved to FL and reality hit when I realized doing natural hair just wasn’t the thing in FL. That’s when my career took a turn to me becoming a specialist in all things extensions. I do everything from coloring extensions to making custom made units for cancer patients. Today I’m blessed to have such a successful salon. My clients love that they can come to me for anything as it relates to their hair. My career has taken me so many places and I’m honored to have such amazing clients. At Salon Lapeche we also specialize in Weddings. Ive had the honor of being apart of so many beautiful weddings and it says a lot that brides trust me to make their vision come to life. My number one goal as a salon owner is to provide excellent customer service to my clients.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We definitely had some bumps in the road! I’ll never forget moving into a new space and while renovation was going on the whole salon swarmed with termites! Or not being able to get capital for the things that’s needed in our slow season. Or clients doing charge backs and disputes ( thank God for insurance). Also trying to find great stylist is a challenge as well because starting out everyone wants to be their own boss and in this industry that’s not a good strategy starting out.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
So what I primarily specialize in is extension work. I do everything from custom coloring, unit making, natural hair, etc. my clients say I have growing hands and basically what that means is that I nurture my clients hair back to health and they see the difference and I make their hair grow so fast! That’s honestly what I’m most proud of. To have the ability to access my clients hair and know exactly what It needs to thrive. Something else I’m most proud of is the fact that since I’ve started in my own salon, it doesn’t matter where I go, my clients gladly follow. That says a lot about Salon Lapeche.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
My family is what makes me the most happy! I have an amazing husband(Marcus) and we have 6 beautiful children. We call ourselves the Hunter Gang! I would not be were I am today without them. They are a blessing in my life.
