Hidden Gems: Meet Lilith Puckett of MISSOURI VOLLEYBALL ACADEMY, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lilith Puckett

Hi Lilith, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
George and I started coaching together in 2008. We coached for other clubs and realized the organizations we coached for did not include all coaches. If you were not part of the clique, those coaches were excluded. With that said, in 2013, MOVA was established. George and I are deeply rooted in our faith. We wanted to start a club that was going to make a difference to all involved, creating a sense of being part of something significant, fostering a cohesive unit, and fostering a family atmosphere. George and I come from very large families with two different nationalities. George is from South Africa, and I’m from the Philippines. We understand the value of family support, and we wanted to bring that sense of support to our club. MOVA, from day one, seemed destined. From the MOVA name to every challenge and success we’ve faced, it has felt like part of a larger plan. We’ve encountered numerous difficulties, from players declining to join our teams, to the struggle of nurturing players only to see them leave, to challenges brought on by COVID and the loss of our practice facility. We left it all to God, and from our humble beginnings with four teams, we have grown to 25 teams. In 2020, MOVA was nominated as one of the Top 4 Clubs of Choice in the US and Canada by the American Volleyball Association. Additionally, I was nominated and nationally chosen as one of the top 10 for the Recipient of Diversity Award from the American Volleyball Association in 2023. We also won a national business makeover contest and acquired our own MOVA facility in 2024. It has been a journey filled with trials and tribulations, but George and I remained steadfast in our faith. We are now starting a new club season at our own facility, feeling blessed and looking forward to continuing our growth, guided by our faith in God. Here at MOVA, every player matters, all families are welcome, and our coaches are a blessing for the growth of our players and the club. Our unwavering faith in God will always be our guiding light.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road to life is never smooth it’s how we react that makes a difference. With that said, the struggle for us/MOVA was continuing the growth of the club, keeping the faith, deal with COVID and this past club season 2023-2024 George dealt with the death of his brother and sister within 3 months and my health declined to end up being hospitalized.
