Daily Inspiration: Meet Staci Halton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Staci Halton

Hi Staci, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My story started when I was 19. I had just finished my first year of college. And while combing my hair, I felt a spot at the top part of my head. When I looked, I noticed that it was a bald spot about the size of a quarter. That was the first day of my hair-loss journey. A few months after that, I worked up the nerve (and saved enough money because the specialist visit was out of pocket and I was a full time college student) to book my first dermatology appt. That was also the first time I heard the word, “alopecia”. It would be another 25 years until I fully embraced being bold, bald, and free both privately and in public. A year later, I started my nonprofit. The Alopecian Queen Movement. Are mission is to help women, children, and men embrace alopecia at whatever stage of the journey that they are in. The AQM provides support, education, and a safe and fun environment for growth. We often share our stories and others are encouraged by our bravery.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It absolutely has not been a smooth road. One of the biggest hurdles during the years of me wearing wigs was how my confidence took a downward dip. I felt like I was living a lie. Wearing wigs and weaves were not only covering up my hair loss, it was also burying who I really was deep down inside.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m an alopecia advocate. It’s a full time mission. One that I am highly dedicated to. Being an ambassador of such a amazing cause has allowed me to meet and inspire women, children, and men all over the world. Although we are strong in numbers, I’m most proud about the lives that I’ve been able to impact while being open and transparent about alopecia.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Some call it luck. I called it Favor. God has favored me. My prayer life is something that I honestly can not ever fall back on. My faith has kept me grounded even when faced with adversity and also the weight of being a single parent. God has always connected me to the right people who have helped me along the way. I’m grateful that even in times of uncertainty, I have also sought comfort in helping others. That’s also where my strength comes from.
