Community Highlights: Meet Shannon Williams Jr of DIY Experiences DBA The OCPD Coach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Williams Jr

Shannon, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hello, I was born and raised in Detroit, MI a HUGE pro wrestling fan. Throughout high school, I taught myself multiple forms of art including video editing, photo editing, audio editing, and 3D modeling. Upon attending college, I noticed that there were no game development courses and that was what I intended to pursue. I locked myself in my room for an entire summer teaching myself the basics of game development. After my second semester of college ended, I pursued an internship at Rocket Mortgage (then Quicken Loans) as an Instructional Designer. I eventually started developing video games for the company, built a gaming team, and then pivoted to building public facing video games for Marvel Infinity War, Barry Sanders, and the NCAA.

After graduating virtually from Full Sail University in 2019, I moved to Orlando, Florida. I immediately started working as a Game Dev for Epcot as an intern before the internship shut down due to COVID. I was called back a few months later to become a Software Engineer for Disney Plus. I have been doing that ever since.

While my career felt very successful, I still dealt with a lot of mental blocks. I was an extreme workaholic to the point of working on my wedding day. I would try to cling to every single dollar I made unless a purchase was essential. I never excepted help or money, very critical, sucked at delegating, and couldn’t reach my OWN standards. My wife advised me to seek help after I wouldn’t allow her to purchase me a Father’s Day gift, preferring to just save the money. This is what led me to my journey of learning about something known as OCPD as well as ADHD.

While going to my therapy sessions, my Therapist actually recommended that I pivot to the mental health field due to my experience, ability to empathize, and dedication to problem solving. It worked and I’ve now been coaching for a full year! I help individuals with a similar mind as my own find peace in their life and better self acceptance.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been relatively smooth so far, but I haven’t fully bet on my self just yet. As the sole provider of my home, I would need to build more equity in my brand/business before completely diving in full-time. As for the work itself, it has been amazing. I get to talk with individuals that want help and collaboratively problem solve with them. Amazing experience!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about DIY Experiences DBA The OCPD Coach?
I help perfectionists, overachievers, and workaholics find peace in their personal lives by redefining progress, success, and value.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
The Holy Bible. Faith and favor have been the two cornerstones of the success in my live. I know that I have been extremely blessed by God and look to bless others whenever I can. In addition to this, “Battle Cry” by Jason Wilson is the book that helped me confirm the path of coaching that I was set on.
