Today we’d like to introduce you to Abraham Nunes
Abraham, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started off as just a High School student trying to learn more about what art was and what it meant to me. With no sense of direction at all, I found myself painting to relief stress and to calm down my anxiety. Over the course of my Highschool years, I become more and more dependent on art, finding healing through not only painting, but painting through what God was telling me, how He was healing me. I decided then to pursue art as a career, I went to college and studied graphic design and fine arts. Now, I’ve adopted the identity of Nunes Studios, where, not only do we believe in spreading joy and awareness through art, but our mission is to show how art can not only be used to create beautiful, eye captivating projects, but through the Glory of God, it can also HEAL!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road at all! At first my parents didn’t believe in my potential. Being a child of immigrants, college was always seen as a way to become a lawyer, a doctor, a professional with high standing within the community. When I told them I was going to be an artist, it was like a nose dive into cold water for them, a shock. But through the years, my parents are some of my greatest supporters, after my beautiful wife of course!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I work with a variety of forms and ideas within my artwork. I primarily work with business identity, creating logos and artworks for clients who have a dream to build a business or for those who are working on their dream already. In my spare time, I do custom paintings on canvas using anything that is in arms reach; creating pieces such as “Skin n’ Bones” where my mission is to bring awareness to anxiety, depression and suicide in the young adult community.
What matters most to you? Why?
I don’t care if people understand my art, or is fascinated by it… what makes me stand about the most, what matters to me the most, is see my art bring joy, awareness, questions, confusion, confidence, ect. What matters to me is seeing people interact with my art, having them leave the gallery asking themselves, what was that, why do I feel what I feel. My goal in my art is to make you feel something, tapping into emotions you’ve may have never felt before
