Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Workman.
Hi Matt, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
4 years ago i graduated UCF with a Masters in Marketing and began working random side jobs that only paid me 15 to maybe 20hr. A year later as I was living in downtown orlando I met my business partner “Daniel Sensual” he and I were both content creators for our personal creative projects. I learned he was a professional Batchata dancer and he learned that I am a singer/songwriter. We later decided that we would film each other with our cameras to help each other grow. Another year later we began to have people ask use left and right to film their projects as they loved what we were doing for each other. I was then able to start doing this full time.
We then decided to make a company together called “MediaGeekz”
Yes a little geeky however we wanted to show that even as geekz (with a z) lol, we can still be fit and strong and also be more than just a person behind the camera because we understand how to be in front of it as well.
It has been 3 years since we’ve had this company and both he and I have amassed 230,000 YouTube following for my music and 60,000 following for his Instagram dance page! These numbers helps us show we are more than just a. Camera person and we know to get results.
We’ve also grown so much to where we film for all of Orlando Weekly events and conferences throughout the whole central Florida area. We are even beginning to do commercials now for TV.
Over the years weve learned everything there is to lighting, gear, directing, script writing and more. Understanding the difference between content creation and professional videos and which is best for clients.
We cater to many orlando businesses and have done some amazing work for big names like Marriott in downtown orlando, showcase of citrus in Clermont, and even petrified forest in Altomonte.
We’ve grown so much and I would never have believed to increase our team of having hired photographers, graphic designers and more. We are excited to keep growing and to help businesses throughout all of central Florida and further!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s never smooth for anyone trying to be an entrepreneur. The biggest hurtle was how do we keep making consistent money every month in order to pay for bills/etc.
Once we began growing our name and credibility clients began calling us more and more. We are rated 5 stars on google and have made every client happy with their results which is why they come back to us time and time again. We are more than just a video company… we understand content and how to ensure sales occur or the client’s vision come to life.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Since I was a kid I was always into music. I always had a camera filming myself doing music videos and covers throughout all of my life. That is where I began to learn more about camera equipment. Through high school and college I began modeling to help pay for college.
I was on sets for Disney and universal a lot and learned a lot of being in front of a camera. During my time as a model I also learned a lot from directors on set about gear and lighting they used. I believe this is where it sparked my interest.
As an artist I began to love the idea of creating for others and taking control and direction of projects to ensure beautiful images come to life in order to sell a place o why people should go or to purchase products and more.
To this day I still do music and have my own company film for my music videos which you can check out at my artist name “Matt Matthews music”
I’m most proud of all I’ve accomplished here and im excited for more. I know I will be more and grow as an individual as the years go on.
Honestly what sets me apart is the fact I’m a content creator and a professional cinematographer. Best of both worlds.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Risks are everything! That is the only way to grow in life. Most people are scared of risks cause they may not see the future or are too scared to fail. Failure is actually amazing!!! That’s how you learn to never do that again.
Investments are the risks people need to take. Investing in websites to ensure you look professional to make the sales.
Investing in the gear to do the job that’s needed.
Investing in marketing to get clients to find you on platforms such as google, yelp, Facebook, Craigslist.
Investing in paying others to help you on projects so you can focus on other parts of the business. You can’t do it alone.
