Today we’d like to introduce you to Luis “Wicho” Rodriguez

Hi Luis, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hello this is Luis Wicho Rodriguez. I’m 55 years old and grew up in the beautiful island of Puerto Rico, now I live in Daytona Beach Florida. I love photography, surfing and riding bikes. Have 2 sons, 2 grandsons thanks to my wife Tanya. I grew up very active in sports on my community and always love to teach others and enjoy it all the way.
Fast forward to 5 yeas ago my youngest son asked me to teach him how do wheelies and jumps on bicycle. So with my old 70s Schwinn I started to teach him and all his friends. He got a new bike and few months later. I had a wipeout riding with him my old bike and he said , u need a SE Bike and as a surprise he got me a new bike on my birthday to save me from getting hurt.
So this bike brought a magic touch to me and with a lot of practice I got a lot better then even when I was a kid. So I started to do rides and clinics to teach new kids or old grampops too. At this point my instagram star to get popular because this old guy getting really good on bikes making new tricks like a goat and helping the community as well and the company of BMX bikes called SE Bikes contacted me and offered me a position as a team rider. Wow what an amazing feeling and amazing ride this has been.
So I went to Puerto Rico and introduced this “BikeLife” movement we call it, and now are over 500 riders doing this stunts and having also fun around the island. BTW we donated and giveaways over 46 bicycles there, over 42 in Jamaica, 15 in Colombia and 100s others all around this country here in United Sates. Is an amazing feeling at this age of 55 to be a motivation for so many around the world to do what I love and share the knowledge. I love making videos and photos and editing and is a big part of my job as a team rider to share all this amazing energy with all communities. If I can save one kid out trouble or drugs for example with a simple thing like a bicycle and ride with them, than we all win! So I keep surfing, I also play pickleball, fishing , photography and enjoy my family to the fullest. So I feel humbly honored to represent the best BMX bikes brand SE Bikes and all my beautiful people of Puerto Rico doing what I love. So if anyone out there is interested on learn something about this bike movement, please reach out and let’s go ride. My instagram is @wichofilmspr FB Luis Wicho Rodriguez and Wicho Films PR at YouTube so go check out some of the action I post daily, thanks for reading my experience and wish y’all a nice ride! I encourage all people to ride bikes. Bikes bring bonds, take you places, is fun , is healthy for ur body and definitely a peace of mind, so is a winning situation, go ride your bike y’all !

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Good question. I always tell kids about this question is that to succeed and to maintain the growth in professional and personal level we need these 3 elements: dedication, sacrifice and discipline! So when we get push back steps on our journey, we make ourselves prepared to overcome the challenges. Is not easy, can be frustrating or disappointing, but we stay focused on the goals and never give up even on the struggle!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Interesting question! I did get covid in the beginning of the pandemic and was a huge challenge. But the bicycle, actually world wide, was the best thing to have when everything was shut down and after I got healed from Covid all I want was to go outside and ride my bicycle with my wife, family and friends. Quick fact: the pandemic created the biggest bicycle boom activity and sales ever recorded in the world. So the Covid gave me a experience of hope when we all were impacted by this crazy pandemic, because I found on bikes , health, mental piece of mind, better shape , new skills and even a new career as a team rider for a amazing bicycle company at the age of 55 doesn’t happen, well it did ! lol
