Hidden Gems: Meet Isaias Torres Rodriguez of Florida Public Adjuster Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Isaias Torres Rodriguez

Hi Isaias, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Isaias Torres and I am from Puerto Rico, I am 38 years old and I am the youngest of 5 siblings, both of my parents passed away, my mother when I was 9 years old and my father when I was 30 years old, neither of my parents went to college, we had few economic resources because of that, but in my house there was never a lack of food, and good Christian values were well instilled, due to the death of my mother my family nucleus broke down and my siblings and I were separated. However, we never stopped studying and some of us finished our studies, two of us finished college, the other three are dedicated to different jobs although without studies they managed to get ahead. I finished my studies in education and history at the Inter American University of Puerto Rico, and finishing my master’s degree at the Metropolitan University of Puerto Rico in 2016, I had an interview with Baltimore County Public School in the state of Maryland in the USA. After working five years in public schools until 2021 in that state, I moved to Florida. In Florida, I worked in hotels for a few months as a service attendant and then worked my last year as a Spanish teacher at Cocoa Beach Junior/Senior Highschool. Since my last four years of teaching, I was interested in working in another area outside of my passion, which was teaching, and although I did like teaching, I was already looking to have my own business that would have more flexibility in terms of time and growth in a different environment. In 2022, I met my wife Erica and she works as a claims consultant in which she assisted homeowners with damage to their homes. That’s when I started working with her as a consultant and became interested in this field of work. During this journey, I became interested and began studying to obtain my license as an adjuster in the state of Florida. After obtaining it, I worked as an adjuster at Lions Public Adjuster for about 8 months. From there, I learned a lot about claims management from my mentor Andrea Valencia (thanks for all your teachings), and that’s when I decided to open my own adjustment company, Florida Public Adjuster Services, where I continue to assist Florida property owners with hurricane, fire, and other damages. Beside the business i enjoy traveling, with my wife Erica and our daugther of 8 months Isabella i like to ride my bike.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The biggest obstacles in this industry are the knowledge you can acquire to handle claims and the confidence you can give in the first impression with the owners. From there new clients and referrals emerge, which is where you can benefit as an adjuster with experience, confidence, attention and knowledge in effective claim negotiations.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My experience as a teacher helped me to be diligent, organized and a specialist in details and attention. I transferred all of this to my business and it has been effective for me. The diligence in handling cases, observing every detail so that the claim is handled effectively and the attention and follow-up with the owners make the services pleasant and for this reason, family and friends refer me to assist them.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
To be patient in some areas and diligent in others. To accept that failures are part of learning and use them as motivation to improve in the workplace and in your personal life.
